I have the problem of when 4x4ing at low speeds with highish rpm the temp climbs. This also happens travelling at low rpm and high freeway speeds. Currently there is a 3 core radiator with two ten inch pusher fans and no engine fan. The gap between engine and radiator is about 10cms. Also the upper radiator hose may present some restriction on the flow.
Does this problem sound more like a water flow or air flow problem, or is it just a matter of this system not being efficient enough?
Is there any way of telling what area the problem is or do I just start eliminating possibilities? Does anyone have any experience here?
Cheers

how does it go at freeway speeds with higher revs (lower gear)???
if this makes it better it sounds like a water flow problem.
what about the standard stuff ?? is there a thermostat??
is there much room around the motor and in front of the radiator for air flow?? pics???

If you already think that flow is restricted through the top hose, it probably is. Fix it. Is your radiator in good nick? Are the cooling fins clear of mud and grass seeds? Get it pulled apart and cleaned. If your car gets hot at highway speeds but the cooling fins are clear, it is probably not just an air flow problem caused by the fans, because they only matter at low speed. Does the radiator have the capacity to cool your motor? Fix the things you already suspect and work from there. Cooling issues can be a bastard so you need to get your equipment in as good a condition as possible.
Do you have a good shroud around the fans so that all air flow is directed through the rad.
I have found this to be critical on all vehicles played with.
