overheating problem
yo guys
got a small problem with my bundy (22R)
if I am idling somewhere for about 10 minutes, the b!tch gets hotter and hotter and starts heading towards the H.
if I am driving around town, the temp stays normal (between 1/4 and 1/2).
wondering what is wrong here?
- could it be my viscus hub (spelling?) not working properly?
- do I need thermos?
- is it a comon problem for bundies and hiluxes?
the reason I put this in general instead of toyota, is cause I know a lot of people who should be seeing this wont..
thanks!

The temp staying normal when moving would sugest to me there is an airflow problem and has something to do with the setup you have to pull air thru when not moving.
A: I assume you have a shroud around the fan and idle speed is correct.
B: If so I would think maybe your fan is definatly in need of attention.
C: If the above are fine then I have NFI

Question:
“Why does my engine temp go all the way up to the red before it comes back down to the middle of the gauge after I start it up in the morning. It only does this when the engine is cold and once it warms up it seems to operate normally. Could it be as simple as a stuck thermostat?”
Answer:
(From Roger Brown’s Web Site)
“What happens on the 22R and 22RE engine, when the coolant goes through the heater core it gets cooled off enough that when it gets dumped back in on top of the t-stat it shuts it. Therefore the temperature in the engine continues to go up. The t-stat that I have mentioned has two valves in it, one at the regular temp. and one smaller on at a cooler temp. If the cool water shuts the big one, the smaller one stays open. All this happens because of the lack of a by-pass hose, which on other systems, keeps hot coolant running on the t-stat.”
You can get the two-stage thermostat mentioned above from your local Toyota Dealer.

A stock motor with a stock cooling system, will be the most efficient you can get for your money. Toyota are not silly they had a shroud for a reason, i recommend making one, copy a stock item, or purchase one from a wrecker. Remember to haggle the a$s out of the wrecker, they like to ream HARD when n00bies are buying stuff. Fight back and pay minimum amounts.
hands and mums dont count!!!
where are u robbie?
melbourne? If so then ask bundy time for one?
Marks $wd Adaptors make some (but try to get one from a wrecker first).
Why doenst yours have one??
In fact any radaitor repair shop might have one that would go close to fitting. If they dont they would be able to make u one for sure.
