Anyone with ideas on solutions for the following problem would be much appreciated.
4.2 Diesel Patrol, overheats when hauling 750kg camper trailer or in really hot weather. We've put in new thermostat, hoses, water pump and the radiator is only 2 years old (had it pressure tested 4 months ago).
Running out of things to replace and ideas.......

Overheating GQ -- please help
Something that is easily overlooked is to remove the radiator and give it a good clean. May just be clogged up. ie. in between the cooling vanes. I have to clean the bugs out of mine once a year.

have you had the injector pump checked to make sure the engine isnt being overfueled, as over fueling can casue over heating in diesels,
also, do you have a body lift?
is the fan shroud still on the radiator and in one piece,
your Viscus hub on your fan, may not be working properly, does it speed up from time to time, or one continous speed? sounds stoopid, but are your belts tight?
id say, try the above too, but if its been out and pressure tested, id hope its clean,
also, there was a thread about the lower radiator hos gewttin sucked in, so there would be a restriction, make sure there arnt any kinks in the hose, and a visual inspection while engine running, will show if the hose is getting sucked in,.

Re: Overheating GQ -- please help
have you tried a different temp gauge sender? Or even a better quality Temp gauge like a VDO that gives correct readings?

What model GQ are we talking about here?
The GQ was fitted with two different dash clusters, sometimes this can be the problem.
The different dash clusters had a different style of guage - one guage read up/down (needle position) and left/right. The earlier models and DX were fitted with the left/right needle position type guage, these models seem to (historically) have the 'cooling problems', as registered on the factory guage. The only way to be sure is fit an aux temp guage, even the simplest mechanical guage from super cheap will give you an accurate enough reading.

Built, not bought.
from what i hear every second one will 'overheat' head towards the 3/4 mark under load......
do all the basics listed above.... i have only 1 more thing to check that being bottom radiator hose and putting falcon spring thanks to the boys on here...... i believ mine very slightly over fuels, and i dont think 35s help mine either on the long hills...
if somewon as suggested got a different and more accurate gauge to let us know what temp '3/4' is....may be ok maybe to hot!!!! would make us all drive without the worry....
