Hey guys,
I looked through the GQ/MAV bible and could not find anything,
so I'm asking a tech question for a mate who has a 91' SWB GQ.
He has just lifted it 2", and now is having problems with driveline
vibes in 2WD above 90kph to about 110kph.
As I neither have a SWB OR a Nissan
What do you blokes do when this issue arises??
Do you just put in some double-cardans in or what?
I think he has had the gearbox lowered slightly with spacers,
should he remove the spacers??

When lifting the car the pinion tends to point upwards.
He should remove the spacers and put adjustable or lengthened lower arms in to kick the rear pinion down so as to be parallel with the transfer case output. The uni's should handle this angle.
Or give Cheezy Racing a call....
I wish I hadn't bought my double cardinal shaft $800, it works but $800 plus the cost of having the housing rotated etc make me angry sometimes. In reality shorties are fairly good in the rear driveline department compared to say a stock TJ which needs SYE and Cardin joint.

what jeremybubbles said...i have 5 inches of suspension and worked for me..can be fixed with x member spacers but will need alot of packers to get to the optimum angle, and this will reduce ur underbody clearance and make ur e engine mounts last about a week...
ask ur mate how high he ultimatley wants to go.. is he happy with 2 inches or will he wanna upgrade later? best to fix once and for all when finished ride hight is acheived..

Thanks guys, you obviously know your stuff on the shorties.
you can read all you want on this sort of thing, but speaking to people who have actually tried it themselves is invaluable, I have already told him what you said and he is going to hook into it soon.

I first put the spacers 20mm on the crossmember which got rid of 95% of the vibrations.
A few weeks ago I got Cheezy trailing arms 16mm longer than standard.
Vibrations 100% gone
Last night took spacer plates out and have very minimal vibration, you would hardly notice.
Im happy to have the crossmember in it original spot now plus stronger trailing arms.
Best to get the arms straight up.
