Sway Bar Disconects

Hi all,

Was talking to one of the guys at autoalliance about disconects...

He says as follows:

I would if need be, but unless you are going to enter a Tuff Truck challenge
competition, you will find that the TJ will take you anywhere you'd be
prepared to take it without the need to disconnect.



I am definetly confused?? what do you guys have to say about this?

did u also happen to ask the guy what colour TJ he drove? whats that, he doesnt own a TJ? what, he never has owned a TJ? lol

if they werent useful then there wouldnt be a market for them , if there wasnt a market for them then they would never be sold, fact is they are sold and sold and sold all the time, your best bit is to stick to asking jeep questions to jeep mechanics, toyota questions to toyota mechanics, and so on

Yeah thats what i was thinking but it dosn't help when u get so many totaly different opinions... I have just been doing them manually so i guess once it really starts getting on my nerves doing it this way it will justify the $300 or so for the teraflex disco's

It is a huge difference in offroad performance even on my stocker which i have noticed unless im dreaming..

Good quality disconnects are well worth the money. Mine make no noise at all (no rattles), and while they can be tricky to get on if not flat ground, a bit of a push on the bullbar/bumper will help.
They do make a huge difference offroad - no more lifting front wheels!

Something else you can do in the short term is unbolt the bottom mount, drill the bolt and use an R clip to hold in place onroad, pull the clip, slip the bolt out and cable tie it up when offroad.

Little wonder Auto Alliance does so little eep work these days.
Yes the early models of swaybar discos were notorious at attling & were a bear to reconnect - but since the new style of JJKS & Teras hit the market about 4 years ago - it's a none excuse. either these brands are a quality unit.....

I'd also dispute that it's only the comp rigs - finfact most comp rigs start to move towards anti rocks & SwayLok in our case.....
Best bang for buck inprovement is a set of swaybar discos.....Oh yeah you can blow apart the stock balljoint if you don't disconnect - just to male it more appealing to do so

Sway bar disconnects - should be first mod for all TJs. Either buy disco's, the right torx spanners, or mod the bottom bolt for diy disconnects. The only reason for not getting disconnects straight away is if you are about to lift your jeep and you will need longer ones.

For the hassle of jumping on the bullbar a bit if the ground is not even, disco's are well worth it.
