Disco2 Maxi front axles and CV's

Post by Slunnie »

Here are the new Maxi front axles for the D2.

Larger CV, and a press fit ring on the bell. Axles are Hytuf, and machined down to a dia of 1.1" which I assume is similar to the minor dia of the splines. Unusual spline work on the long axle for some reason. There are made as slide out slide in installations.

Interesting. Is the D2 still 24 spline? It looks like Mal is now using the same 24 spline for the diff lock locking dog (the funny splines you mentioned).

Ah, that makes sence then. Yep, the D2 is still 24spline kit. The lockers are just standard 24 spline ARB's that go into most Discos and RRC's.

Mal used to make seperate axles for those wanting HD axles and those wanting the full locker setup, now he just makes all axles locker compatible. Can I ask why you didn't get the Locker from Mal at the same time - it would have been cheaper than the ARB wouldn't it?

I think in the end the pricings between the ARB, JacMAc and Maxi all came up pretty close, within about $100 or so when you factor in the HD axles. I'd blown a rear diff and axle at the time and was redoing the front and rear completely, though HD fronts were not available then. JAcMAc needed a lead time, ARB were there the next day and MAxi's although good, I didn't want the cutouts and associated magnitude of wires and hoses around the axle - less is more. Anyway, Mal likes to do things the right way as we all know and did't sell the front lockers without the front axles anyway.
