Hi Guys
New to the site but this is the one I`ve been trying to join for ages. I am in Scotland and have Patrol GQ. It was brought in from Cyprus to UK when new so I assume it`s the same spec as the Aussie ones 94 td42 auto. 172000klms- salt has affected some areas of it but it can be made good. Anyway our Patrols here are GR models and I`m sure they are n/a diesel manuals or petrol turbo or non turbo manual or auto.I only speak of the 4.2 (92-98) models here. The GR diesels have 124 bhp(91kw?) where as my GQ has 85kw. where does the extra power come from on gr models. Are our GRs (92-98) all y60 type and did Y61 start in uk with the advent of the 98 on -rounder shape and 3ltr di engine.
When you speak of extractors do you mean exhaust manifolds?
Cheers Alex

The bit that I know.. Yes, extractors are usually refered as aftermarket exhaust manifolds.
Lost me in the GR / y60 thing. I thought the GR was the same as our GU? great, now i am confused, back to my MQ's and leave this to the experts.

pretty sure our td42's don't come out with an auto behind them. they also were not turboed from the factory until the current shape - GU
I'd hazard a guess that the extra power would be down to injector pump fuel settings.
Pretty easy for nissan to make a heap of td42's, all the same and have different states of tune for different markets, fuel qualities and transmissions.
Does the motor look the same i.e. filter locations and piping to the local 'GR' models you talk about?
If you're after that bit of extra power you could probably just get someone to dyno it and tune the injector pump.
But then i'm only guessing - and at the tail end of the last nightshift...

There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots
Thanks Patroler
Our td42 gr have no turbo or auto option on the y60 type. I`m understanding now that when your gu came out(rounder shape?) you kept the option of the 4.2 engine whereas we didn`t. Just near the end of production in 98 there was a 2.8td. (132bhp) Was that the start of the di engines just before the GUs? Can`t get a look at gr(92-98 square type y60-I assume) as they`re as common as good English cricket players. They aint even in breakers and dealers know nothing. It`s all terrano`s here although gu is now more common.Yeah I was thinking of tryin to get the bits of GR to gain that possible 10bhp. You guys are lucky having the choice of parts for Patrols over there but then I bought new heater plugs for Landrover the other day £3.50 each!!!!
Cheers Alex

WHERE DID YOU GET THE FIG OF 91KW FROM? GR IS JUST A MODEL GRADE IE FOR WHAT WE HAVE HERE Ti ST DX. JAPAN CALL Ti A GR (TOP OF THE RANGE). JAPAN DID ALSO HAVE A FACTORY TURBO TD4.2 FOR Y60 BUT WAS NOT AN OPTION FOR AUSTRALIA. IF NISSAN EUROPE SPEC 91KW THIS COULD BE DOWN TO FUEL AS THEY HAVE MUCH BETTER QUAILTY DIESEL. IF YOU ARE ONLY LOOKING FOR A FEW MORE KW'S

Hi Alex - its amasing to discuss all these finer points with people all around the world, care of this wonderful forum, welcome
I had a 1997 GQ 4.2 factory turbo diesel in New Zealand which produced 156 HP or 117 Kw of power and 1010 ft/lb of torque as standard. I then went about and fitted a propane injection kit which helped it move along. Unfortunitly I didn t get it back on the dyno with propane fitted. However I have now fitted a 5.7 litre corvette injected V8 - makes it move a little better!!
