Post by Rich »

Well it has 3 new engines, lots more standard features and apparently a lot more comfortable, but no traction control !

No More Torsion Bars,Same set up as Prado Coil overs

8inch front diff but a two half casing set up.

D4D Deisel Engines Common rail twin cam.

4 litre V6 petrol same as Prado.

Personally I don't like the look of it .

Made In Thailand like the current Lux's

I think the last of the Solid axle Lux was the best.

That's why with my 2004 mod I am in the process off putting a Bundera front coil end in.

and a rear coil surf end in (with disk brakes)

They just got soft from there.

Cheers

3 new engines ??

2.7l 4cyl base i am assuming
4.0l v6 1gr-fe prado engine
1kd-ftv 3.0l D4D common rail turbo diesel

That them ?

I noticed Jan issue of 4x4 monthly had the new D4D for the prado in march as well, feb issue didn't have any info about new engine in march :(
Wonder when the prado will get the new diesel and 5 speed auto, 6 manual like they do in other countrys.

Its a bit of a new concept for Toyota, the new Hilux is what they call an IMV, I think it stands for "international market vehicle" or something like that.
what it means is that unlike the current model Hilux, pickup, or other names it has around the world, which has over 50 different models and varients. the IMV is the same everywhere, Aus, Europe, Asia etc.

its big too, the 4wd is about as big a Prado, the 2wd a bit lower.

as for the look of it, you either love it or hate it.

It looks too much like a nissan navara. Even the f*ckin door handles look like a nissan symbol. Its all very rounded and gay. Im not a fan. I just cant take a 4wd that has "european styling" seriously.

New Lux

Post by Rich »

Well the 3 new engines are:

2.7 VVT Petrol,
4.0 L V6 Prado engine, and
D4D T / Diesel.

And for the Smart A$$es, no they are not all in the same car !

The Petrol Prado already has 5 Speed Auto, the new 4.0 L Hilux will have a 5 Speed Auto/6 Speed manual as well. The D4D Turbo diesel Hilux is also going to have an Auto option, but no-one knows if it will be 5 speed or not....?

It looks good, that picture of the 2WD beige colour does not do it justice I reckon. I still think they should have put the ATC Auto Traction Control on it, like the Prado has.
From what I have seen this feature works quite well, anyone else care to comment?

Those engine numbers:

2TR-FE 2.7 L VVTi IL 4,
1GR-FE 4.0 VVTi V6, and
1KD-FTV 3.0 D4-D IL 4. as you said I think.
Diesel has 120 KW with 343Nm torque.

Released 31 March apparently.

Jesus thats fugly. I agree, sales are gonna drop. Couple years time the current model will porbably be selling at a higher rate second hand than these POS. Be like the VL selling for more than the VN. Mind you 4x4s will be banned by then along with other fun things like shooting, alcohol, gambling and sex (I think this was fun, I can barely remember).

it would be unlike toyota to put any extras in it such as traction control. if they include it, it will be included in the option pack along with the spare tyre, steering wheel and A/C. Half the stuff they have as options are standard in other marques. its just a toyota thing.

I reckon it looks alright. if it has more room in the dual cab it could be a could option to a wagon.

Looks like toyota stole a heap of GU bonnet scoops out of the nissan factory too

That front end is going to be a BITCH to make a bullbar fit to and look good....Just like the new prado is...

IMO, the LN106/RN105 Solid axle lux was the last good lux, and the 90 series prado was much superior to a 120 series- we bought our friends and he bought a 120 and how he wants his 90 back

New Hilux

Post by Rich »

Thanks for the Pics Siam...... How are they going over there in Thailand, is there any problems with them being discovered yet?

I think they look pretty good, I reckon Toyota will sell a $hit Load of them.

I have heard from a pretty reliable source they are not going to have traction control, not even as an option on the SR5. Everything else including dual airbags, ABS 6 stacker Cd etc etc will be standard on the SR5.

They told me they were going to Rack and Pinion Steering, does the current Lux not have that?

New Turbo Diesel Motor sounds pretty good on paper...
