VDO tacho installation

Post by kranked_dirt »

G'day guys, have aquired a 2nd habd vdo tacho, wanting to hook it upto my 2f engine. I know where the +ve and -ve wires go (obviously) but where would the 3rd go?? Coil or alternator, and what terminal on each of them?? The code on the side of the unit reads: 353 356 or 383 356 (i cant tell if its a 5 or 8) if this helps.

Thanks fellas,

Adam

Your coil looks like a skinny coke can, with one thick wire and a few skinny wires coming from it. It's probably mounted on one side of your engine bay, up high near the bonnet line.

The skinny wires should be attached to two screw terminals, on either side of the thick wire (which should be going to the centre of your distributor.)

If you look real close at the surfaces around the two screw terminals, there should be marks indicating "+" and "-". The third wire needs to go to the screw terminal marked "-".

Or, if you've got a modern fuel injected motor in there, it could look nothing like the above - sorry. :D

Good luck,

Scott
