Getting new set of rubber soon (currently running 31/10.5/15) i''m going to be using disco steel rims. Has anybody got any comments on which size to go for 235/85's or 265/75's? Does the extra width of the 265/75 offer any great advantage over the the slightly taller 235/85's? has anybody used both sizes before? i've seen defender owners change from 235/85's to 265/75's before is that just for looks? The terrian i travel ranges from sand to mud.

you can get a bfg mud terrain in 255/85-r16, about 33 inches tall but still not to wide. i'm a firm beleaver in narrowISH tyres as they don't have as much rolling resistance but in a tall tyre aired down will still have a good footprint. i drove all over fraser island on 750-16's xzl very mud baias and had no dramas. just my opinion

yep, you can get 255/85/16's from BFG and Cooper (STT)
Gives you a little more clearance under the diffs and a bit more width than a 235/85, with the height of a 285/75.
Can mount them on a 6.5" Rover rim, and looks stock.
Stuffs up the turning circle a bit on stock offset rims.

I have 3 sets of rims and tyres for my County, all on Disco steel rims:
* 235/85 Cooper STs
* 265/75 Cooper STTs
* 265/75 BFG AT's
I also used to run 235/85 BFG MT's.
The problem with the 265's is that they rub on the rear spring mount on full compression. I am contemplating getting the rims offest to assist with this and perhaps modest gains in turning circle and stability.
I do not notice any difference on sand between 235 and 265.
