6.2 Chev Oil Pressure????

Post by brighty »

HELP???? I want to go out and play again!!!!!

I'm having a prob with the oil pressure in the 6.2

I have a feelling it's related to the pipe that comes off the side of the oil filler. Mine has an end stop clamped over it (how I bought it) and when I fixed the filler cap with a new rubber seal(old one was a very lose fit and it kept falling off).

Now with the new rubber on the filler cap in place, after about 10-20 secs of running the engine, oil sprays out the dip stick... everywhere!!! :bad-words: :bad-words: - take the filler cap off and it stops.

Can anyone tell me where exactly this pipe is supposed to run to??? I'm presuming it's a breather of some sort.... maybe I'm wrong...

not too sure if it will help ya ????
my engine is the 6.5 and i am assuming they are the same intake wise
my oil filler goes straight into the front of the motor next to / near thermostat ...... there is a breather or PCV valve that is on the drivers side rocker cover that connects to the inlet manifold

maybe if you could post pictures ????

i will try to post some tomorrow... if i remember

hey toytruck,

Yeah mine is the same setup by the sounds of things... I have the same breather on the driver side rocker cover as well.....

Can you tell me if you have an outlet on the oil filler which comes off to the drivers side??? If so, where does it go to??? This outlet is the one on mine that has been blocked off (on the side of the actual oil filler pipe.)

I would post pics up(it'd make life alot easier!!!) but with me being basically computer illiterate... and no digital camera....

hope the photos help OR youve already fixed your oil issue ?!?

if you havent fixed it ... what was the history of the oil blow out???
did it start after it was serviced or just from replacing the rubber seal?
not trying to insult you but is it possible the oil is over full
or worse maybe piston blow by ( is it still running right? not lumpy or missing?) if it was compression blow by you would probably find your oil thinned out by diesel fuel in the sump

the pics should explain themselves but to answer your question .. no my filler neck doesnt have a pipe on the side

Havn't really looked into it yet... damn work!!!!

Thanks for the pics... my filler is diff to yours, but technically it's the same, as the pipe coming off the side of it is blocked. So i can eliminate tht as a prob....

Oil is definitly not over full, i know it's a stupid Q, but these things have to be asked, huh!!

Not checked consistency of oil yet, will have to do over the weekend and get back to you on that one. But apart from that.... is the tinyest bit rough when 1st started(cold), but after about 15-30 secs.... runs smooth as.

Might need to call in a few favs from a mechanic mate of mine to come have a look....

I'll keep you posted.
Cheers,
Brighty.

i would think you would notice compression loss in one cylinder but it would pay to do a full compression test to rule it out
if you can hijack your mechanic mate , that would be the best way.

.. BTW ... Sixty ....HJ45s dont have an original heater tap , taps were only fitted to the later 40s and 47s ..

Some configs of 6.2's and 6.5's have a sealed oil filler cap and some have a vented one. depends on what your particular engine came out of and where it was sold originally as regards to emissions.
My Humvee's 6.2 has a sealed filler cap, actually identical to a torana cap.
When it came it had a vented cap from a military spec Chev Blazer which is vented and has a crude metal fuilter in it which can be cleaned and reused.
From your post I'd suspect that your engine needs to have a vented cap (which should have a filter in it to prevent dirt ingress) and in fitting your new rubber seal you've stopped it venting.
My filler kneck has a large hose from it to a 3 way connection on the CDR valve which is fitted in place of the pcv in your pic.

Tough ask, but can you post pics??? Would really appreciate it. I'm going to call Eagle Auto Spares and find out about the vented filler caps today. Hopefully that will solve the prob.

I'll take some pics for you, no probs. another place to ask is Linquip up in Gympie, they fit lots to Cruisers and Patrols.
You can have the old vented cap that was on mine if you want to pop down to Hornsby.
