Hi Folks,
I'm trying to find all the chassis dimensions for the LWB GU wagon. If anyone has a copy, could they please email them to me direct.
Also, does anyone have a source for GU LWB (or Ute) chassis's?? They are impossible to find here, so we're looking to import one.
Any help would be much appreciated.

i'll be going to car auctions in the next week or so could have look and let u know what some of the GU wrecks are going for.
but it all depends on weather i can tell if they have any chassis damage.
there is a place in melbourne called southern 4x4 recyle you could try them they'll probably have a chassis.

I thought that GQ/Gu were the same are you after compliance tags or not. maybe use GQ. All steering and suspension components interchange

I thought the GQ/GU were the same also, but have not been able to confirm it.
Bit of background info which may help......a mate is building up a GU Ute comp truck, as his GQ SWB comp truck is knackered (rolled it twice at Superwinch comp last weekend). He got a ute cab (2002) brought in from Japan very cheap, but cant find a GU chassis for it. He has a GU front axle / steering box and GU TD42T engine in the GQ comp truck which will be swapped into the ute. Has a 2nd hand GU rear diff arriving soon.
Since he can't find a GU chassis, I suggested using a GQ LWB chassis instead. I found the GQ LWB chassis dimensions to compare against the GU dimensions, but the GU dimensions are measured between chassis drainage holes, not the body mount positions like the GQ ones......PITA to compare the two on paper. Soooooo, we climbed under his wifes GU LWB to compare dimensions that way. Not the most accurate way of doing it as you have to make guess-timations because there are things in the way, but we were out by about 10mm between body mounts (GU 10mm wider than GQ dimensions).
Since this next truck has to last him a while, and he wants to tour around Aussie next year, he wants it to be spot on. Doesn't want to have to modify accessories like sub-tanks etc to make them fit a GQ chassis, or modify body mounts etc.
Priced bringing in a new GU ute chassis from Japan...not much change from $10k, hence why we're looking at getting one from Oz.
Basically, we haven't been able to confirm that a GU body will fit onto the GQ chassis without any dramas. Would be great if someone had a bare GU chassis they could run a tape measure over for us, would save a lot of headaches.......then I get his old chassis and body to do a GQ ute conversion

Can get you a chassis, its straight - numbers are good. THe GU chassis has some more gussets in it but that is about it....and if you have an earlier Gu the chassis is identical to GQ. The Utes also have more gussets and are the same dimensions as wagons.

Why not simply use the Gu Cab on the SWB chassis. Extend the rear control arms and tail shaft. Aim for 100inch whell base and get the best of all worlds. This is becoming popular in Melb where we have faster tracks and events. I am looking at pushing the spring towers 75mm forward on the front of a SWB chassis and 75mm back on the rears.

Yes we can get a LWB GQ chassis no problems from a local wrecker....I've sourced one for him at $450, its straight and not got any rust. As the GU cab he has is the 2002 model (better looking curved headlights), do you think that will still drop straight on??

Unfortunately, in NZ competition we're not able to alter wheel-base length from factory standard (tolerance of + or - 50mm), hence why he's after the longer wheel base length offered by the Ute. A MWB would be great, but not elegible for comps here
