V6 into 2.8 GU
V6 into 2.8 GU
Havent seen or heard of it being done before
How would a 3.8v6 commodore motor out of a vr/vs perform in a manual GU2.8 after fitting a gq box or similar.
Just a thought any ideas.

wouldnt have enought torque if were going to do it you'd a least put a v8 in
but i personally would rather just get TD42 and turbo that and GQ box.

The dunnydore motor, I dont think would be a huge upgrade. May even be less torque.
Have you thought about a bigger motor. Like one of teh other GU fitted engines. Since there has been no major changes you could even fit the 4.8lt. But even a 4.5lt petrol would do the job. As would a TD42T. All these would require the bigger gearboxs though.
Another thing if you keep with the Patrol engines you dont need an engineer to sign off. As it was already designed to fit in there.
Also all Nissan engines a strong enough to take a turbo/supercharger, thats diesel and petrol's.
MMMMMMM 4.8lt Turdo'd intercooled GU.

This is a very good point. If you use an engine that was an option on that model vehicle, not engineers required, just swap engine number and that's it.
Also, go to the auctions and pick up a rolled GU, I know of a 4.5 petrol that had some pretty bad body damage but was mechanically sound go for $3k and they were struggling to get that!!! You not only have all the bits required for a straight swap but shloads of spare drive train to boot. For that price, you could nearly sell the diffs complete and get the changeover for free!!!

Wouldnt mind knowing if a turbo petrol patrol can be made to be fuel efficant and develop some good power. I know of a bloke who had a turbo 4.5lt cruiser and he used to be able to beat the turbo diesel in highway runs.
As then it would make it viable. But the only turbo petrol patrols I know of have serious drinking problems ie Shrek and Birdy's trucks.

not a double negative, but a triple!! You need fuel to make power..
From what i read 4.8's all except Robins (9/100) on Patrol list have hideous economy, but its a fuckin big donk! and big car.. so yea..

Yer but 'the shed guy' (pretty sure you know who I am talking about). Had a turbo 80series petrol, which produced heaps of grunt (I have a vid of it somewhere). But was also able to achieve good fuel economy. Yes I understand that when I stand on the loud pedal, things are going to goto S^%T.
I would be willing to have fuel econmy in the low 20/100kms, for good reliable hp. And that is what this bloke had. So you must be able to do the same to a patrol.
As for the new Holden V6. Would be worth investigating. But I think since it is still a new donk. Even 2nd hand the price would suck. TB45E would be cheap at the wreckers (maybe- I have never looked).
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
personally i would still stick to a nissan motor... so much less hassel with engineers and stuff.
you could always put in a 4.5 petrol and turbo it and run it on gas then u would have grunt with some form of economy..
but saying that i hate gas and would rebuild a 4.2 and blue print it and have an awesome turbo set up.
for around 13k or so i know it sounds much but you can have a 4.2 blue printed ported and worked with worked turbo and pump and achieve 150kw at the rear wheels.
the motor will be reliable as it was built for this power and you will still achieve decent economy.

.
Was talking to a mate about this the other day. And he mentioned that setting up a Duel fuel turbo set up would be a pain in the arse. Either run straight gas or straight petrol (or BB something). Not both.
