I have heard that the rocks they drive on over there offer incredible traction, unlike anything I have ever encountered in OZ, so maybe the terrain isn't as extreme as we would imagine by just looking at the nice pics.
BTW,The vehicle above has since been fitted with Mog axles.

Thanks John, I was caught out by how quickly the Mog conversion finally came together. going by the buildup thread on pirate I thought it still had a little way to go before completion.

You should come up to QLD Bill. There are some properties (e.g. Manar) where you can find high traction rock in reasonable amounts. It is amazing the steepness of some of the slopes you can drive on that stuff. I am happy to show you if you are up that way when I am back in Oz.

I would like to take you up on that offer Ben. What areas of Queensland are you refering to ? With the cost of fuel these days( $1.08 litre last night) it would be cheaper to freight the Rover up on the back of a semi I think. I lived in Gladstone central Qld some 28 years ago. Most of the tracks that had any rocks around there were of the loose crumbly variety with not a lot of traction. Back in the days when nobody cared, Little Ayres Rock in NT(behind the big one) was a bit of fun. I suppose the Flinders Ranges has potential too, but its a long way to limp home if you break.

Sounds like you have done some interesting trips in your time Bill. I am envious every time I hear the trips that our older club members used to go on to places that are now closed.

Manar is a 20000Ha cattle property 5hrs (by series LR) north west of Brisbane on the Gayndah-Mundubbera Rd. About 2-3000Ha of the property is open to 4x4ing. Much of the property is the loose crumbly rock you mention, but there is one area that has very large slabs of high traction rock. There are some other properties close to the granite belt that have large expanses of high traction rock too, But Manar has the most that I have encountered.

No, not quite that slow, about double that :D Though we usually have a `53 series 1 in the convoy on trips there, so it sets the pace. :D
