First of all let me apologise cos i know its annoying when these things are asked =)
Im going 31x10.5's on 15x7s soon and need a tyre that suits my needs best, but im torn between these two.
My zuk is a daily driver, so needs decent on road handling, but when i go offroad i go pretty hard (rock/mud).
Motorways are super cheap to buy and have a great pattern, but how are they onroad? especially in the wet!? Im also worried about the fact theyre retreads - can they handle my odd outburst of 120-130km/hr without being demolished?
Coopers look like theyll be great on road, but im not sure about offroad ability.. and at near $250ea theyre a BIG EXPENSE!

Motorways are only rated to 110 - I wouldn't feel safe at all pushing them past that. They don't handle very well in the wet or onroad but not many mud tyres do I guess... they're a bit noisy, but again, so are most mud tyres
If you do a lot of beach driving I wouldn't really recomend them, they don't bag out very well at all and another tyre might be a better choice if sand is your thing.
But asides from that they go really well offroad, I'm stoked with mine for the price, you just have to be a bit mindful of the softer rubber they're made of

They bag nicely. I run mine at 5-10psi. on 7"s

I also push past the 110 marker. They are fine. I was told by craig in the OBC one of the rigs used mongrels that are rated to 110 also was averaging about 130km/h. so they should be fine. On road, i find them ok, extreme braking they make grip well. (damn excels). tailslides still happen in the wet but heaps better from my old rubber

have you considered the motorway ground hog (they are the retread) as the motorway mud terrain also comes in a monoform tyre as well
the prices i got were
1) ground hog $83 (31x10.5)
2) mongrel $170 (32x10.5)
3) mud terrain $100 (31x10.5)

ive been thinking about new tyres my self and have decided to go for simex M/T. they are a 31/10.5/15 tyre and can be bought for about $150-$170 each if ya look around. But thats just my choice others will choose others.

If you read the monoform web site, i believe they state it on there. Mine are the Monoform muddie retread.
basically mine are Goodyear GSA's with a layer of rubber on 1 side and the top and then regrooved to suit a bfg pattern.

ok, i love my motorways
they are cheap, i find they bag really well, much better then the monoforms
st's are girly and alterrain and expensive
they look better
i find they are good in the wet
i find it ok on sand, its only a zook.
if your bus is still pushing 120 with the 31's i congratulate you.
mine are speed limited to 120km/h
wicked in the mud, rocks i dont know, dont have any down here.
with all the new technology now days, a retread tyre is near as good as a normal one.
and ya gotta love the price

I'm getting a set of the Monoform muddies...
The monoforms aren't strictly a retread, which usually means that the tread area of the tyre has been relaid. The monoform uses a carcass of another tyre for the radial belt etc and re-lays the entire rubber portion from bead to bead.

so the verdict is to go the motorway monoform muddy?
oh and 120+ will definitely be done... not regular but once a fortnight. i have 1.6 8v, weber 32/36, extractors n 2" pipe... 4th gear 5400rpm is 140km/hr with 215/75r15... when i go the 31 ill put 5.14 transfer in (18% reduction) to bring it back to stock (1% out) so im sure ill still acheive some speed =)

The motorway Mt's are pretty good value for money. Had them on my Vit for about 18 months and flogged the guts out of them. They performed well.
If you talk to Motorway they will be able to advise that it is federal law that retread tyres must be speed rated at a lower rating. Most retreads have the same 110kph rating.
My Vit could still hold 120-130kph with the 30" MT's and had no troubles. I think these tyres are now on a sierra from this forum.

go the retreads me and my mates all run oz tec mud retreads and while there not motorways my mate has gotten 40000 ks out off them on his hilux.they xray the cases now days before treading so reliability should be good.ive found them excellent on all types of terrain.
