Hey, just an early notice that the Gold Coast 2000 will be held on the 12th, 13th and 14th of August 2005.

the competition is run as fully self sufficient..... all sleeping apparatuseseses must be carried on the vehicle when competing. So for competitors, there wil be adequate room to park and sleep.

try this linkfor last years info... (of coarse pic aren't working) this is how the comp works. The format of last year was successful, the competitors were generally happy with it. From what I understand sa couple of minor points will be 're-assessed' for this yars event. That is all I am going to divulge until the details are available from the 'organising committee'.

Ahh, such fond memories for Rod in that last pic. The ute all straight (well, close to), before he decided to streamline the roof at the Logan Challenge. He did really well to finish 4th outright at this year's GC2000. Pity the little ute has probably seen it's last comp, and won't be there next year to challenge for the title.

But, I'll be there. In one form or another. Probably as an official, as I promised Andy McCabe I'd help him because he helped me at the L.C.

If they give me the chance I will be back with bells on. I would just like to finish the bloody thing. I haven't had much luck over the last three years, rolled it just as I grabbed third gear in '02, FUBAR the rear drive shaft in '03 and lunched the ring and pinion in '04. Clarky reckons I have to learn to button off a little :lol:

. I will have it running on petrol as well as gas by then so I promise I won't be ducking out for fuel (vehicle or human) this time.

Still haven't busted any HAULTECH CV joints yet. Chuck reckons I'm not trying hard enough. :?:

is this an event suitable to beginners? by the time this is around, i will have big tires (35") and better suspension, but i will be unlocked for a while (untill i can afford it :cry:

) and im winchless (except for the Turfor

). but i am keen to start trying some easy comps and shit to build some skill and confidence to play with the big boys when i can afford it.

hmm you will definately need a winch :finger:

and I wouldnt exactly say that this event is easy

All the 'big boys' compete in this...so you will need to have a rig that is up to winch challenge standards...(in a way)..

BUT, you can always enter

this is an individual event, driver and navi only. It is an excellent event to take part in - particularly if you have a good winch!

the moment details are available - I will post up. Good to here interest fromnew competitors. It really is a good event as a precurser for winch challenge and Outbakc Challenge vehicles

We did it last year and back in 2002. Cost was about $150 from memory. Had a GPS nav stage Friday night then about 10 stages across Saturday and Sunday on Private Property. Most stages involve some winching, all stages are against the clock. There were a couple of non driving stages - eg bush skills, first aid.

I'll definitely be putting in for it again, and this year I'll be taking some warm clothes as the overnight camps were painfully chilly (-8 C) - especially when you're packed up and ready to go before sunrise.

most people would have been running 35/36" Simex's last year, or 35/37" Claws and maybe the odd set of mud tyres. Tyre size limit was 37" (as marked on sidewall I think) but you do get a reasonable amount of tarmac on the nav stage so boggers might be painful! Creepy Crawlers would be OK I reckon.

Stages involved some high speed dirt, lots of water and creek banks, some rocks and a bit of mud.

From memory Peter Lepherd won it, Kym Bolton second and Rod Reardon third - but I stand to be corrected on that.

Water was bonnet deep in places, so up the windscreen with the bow wave.

We did a short side CV (GQ front diff), sill damage from a stick that wedged in the steps between stages, bent the bullbar in to the front guard on a rock and burnt the clutch out while winching (driver stupidity). I think there were a few CV's and engine mounts over the weekend plus the odd tyre. The V8 60 series might have gone on its side but I think that was about it.

Last year you didn't need a cage, or nets or helmets. Wagons needed cargo barriers but that was about it.
Might be different this year, no doubt it will depend on insurance requirements.
