hilux diffs
hilux diffs
I've never looked too far into it, but why does everyone use hilux diffs under their zook as opposed to others that are available? ie jeep/patrol/cruiser etc etc
Hilux diffs are obviously stronger than zook diffs but why not GQ diffs? stronger again, can be shaved etc.
Hilux would be easier on a rego'd zook but there are a few trailer queens being built now.
Probably cop a flaming for this post, but not fussed, am just interested in peoples opinions.

mainly avalibality
and they are strong under a zook
weight less compared to other diffs
have good clearence
and arnt riducilously wide although gu diffs or the like would be kool

last time i checked my lux diff was centered not offset

yeah luxy rears r not offset...........
im gunna run 80 series diffs under mine zook wen i build it, i picked up the rear last nite already have the front
but my plan is 2 cut the 80 rear centre out and put in a hilux centre so i will have the same clearence F&R and a hilux axled zook on 38tsls, but ill have some more width, and an offset rear
it will also me regoed

If you are i wouldn't think that it would be very often.
i havent busted a thing with mine and they have done alot of hard wheeling

i have not busted anything in mine yet....and it definently has been used...
i did reco mine though but did not touch the cv,s..they are from a 82 lux...
another good thing i noticed about the diffs is that your side angle is way better...
ive had mine on some pretty crappy side angles now and it sits heaps better...i guess it comes down to a wider track but also a heavier diff down low..

IF i build another zook original motor box, RHop transfer and toyota based diffs, There just a great diff combo for the wieght and output of the zook,
Variations of ring and pinion size incorperating the same axle spline count , huge variation of ratios , Combining original parts to create nice wide tracks , I would deffinatly use them ,
I don,t think you would get much of an improvment over the toy stuff by using the gq , axle size difference is only marginal ring pinion size is greater then a lux , But i seriuosly doutb the need for the lrger ring pinion , for the weight of the vehicle ,.
Hypo , if you shaved the 80 youd, probly end up with more then a lux anyway , Not to mention being offset puts it closer to the wheel for less chance of grabbing , Only be an inch between lux ring and 80 ?
Larry.
