It's a hard core nav type event with special stages normally held around Powelltown/Larby area. Damage is always likely when the stopwatch is running and some of the tracks chosen for the route are generally of a harder nature. I have been assuyred it's going ahead, but like you, haven't heard a thing about it.
In the past the minimum tyre size was 33inch but can recomend it to only the "harder core" type vehicle, although I drove section 2 last year ahead of the comp cars in the 80 to check the tracks were clear and the answers were still about. (wouldn't do some now though!!)

I've got a GU TD-6 with 35" X-Terrains, no lockers.....
Will it be a prob not having lockers?
Was talking to Hobsy and said I should be fine. Have driven most of the hard tracks around here. Guess it's knowing when to go hard and when to back off with out doing damage.
I'm doing the Navruns this year. Should have tyre sponsership organised soon and maybe a Pannel shop as well. Keen to do a bit more comp work but not too extreme. The cars only 18 months old....

I have done every one since they started as the Yarraman Midnight Pursuit and they always seem to get that little bit harder.
Mooney (event organiser) always seems to find that extra track that not many people now about! In the past he has used tracks where he has been the only 4b on the track in the last few years and you find yourself clearing the track as you go.
Two or three years ago he used a track that took out the passenger side of most vehicles if they weren't careful.
I don't know how much you care about the panelwork and paintwork of your GU but I wouldn't be keen on taking an 18 month old GU in the Simex if it's up to it's usual standard.
But as you said it comes down to when to go hard and when to preserve the vehicle. If your doing the event for experience and don't mind taking your time without the whiteline fever effecting your right foot then go for it.
Lockers would be a big advantage though

Probably not the best comp to do in a wagon, the less panels you have the less damage you are likely to have at the finish line if you get that far.
Top comp though, enjoyed every minute of the first half last year, thats as far as our team got, other car burnt out its clutch and was only able to select third gear.

Its a great event and being around the Poweltown area its theres always heaps of mud and tuff tracks. As Drafty said if you care about paintwork or panel damage this ain't the best event. Last years event was hard on vehicles as only 12 teams finished out of 28 teams that started. I surely hope its on as its something i look forward to every year.

GUJONNO, a bit worried about that pretty paintwork are you?
I can have those sliders made by then if you are interested, be carefull if its a timed event insurance could be a problem. If we have to do this event any damage to our rigs will make the sponsership deal not financially viable.plus the cost of entry, fuel, wear and tear.

You and Andrew kissed and made up yet and going to do it together
I am taking nothing for granted, i assumed i was doing the Pajero Challenge with him i was wrong, so when i get asked to do the Simex with him my answer will be a yes, until then who knows. Do you need a co driver?

Hey get in line. I was there before you
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
Gave Geoff Mooney a call on Wed night to find out what's happening. He said it is mapped but he hasn't the chance to recce it yet. If he gets the chance or someone else recce's it, it will be on. He also hasn't had the time to chase up sponsers, merchandise etc. so there will only be a 1st prize and it will be cheaper than usual to enter. Basically if it happens it will be so there's an excuse to get out that weekend for drive. When I hear more I will let you know.
Cheers.
