Been chattin with a board member who has all the tools and time to give me a hand

Hoping to get started in two weeks (chopin that is) will pull out the rear interior this weekend me thinks along with the head linin

well i muck aroudn with grimbos design in paint to give an idea of what i want... its very dodgy but very similar to what i want (besides the colour as all bar wokr is gonna be black)

you may have a problem opening the doors with an exo like that. there is nearly no room to play with the down bar between the front and rear doors. Of course you could always go Dukes of Hazzard style when entering the car

Brimbo - the doors should just clear and the actaull rear tube arch I will design and clip the rear door even further to suit, i may be able to leave it and keed the bar work further back, due to the lengthened rear wheelbase.

I done sum more editing and added a tool box....

Major problems that need to be resolved are Fuel Tank and spare tyre

the problem with the exo like that (think this is what grimbo is saying), is that when you open the back doors, the front of them will hit the member that runs down between the f+r doors.

i think if they sit so as they just clear the front door and arnt too close to the body then back door should be safe but if it aint the back door will just slowly mould a groove to accomodate the bar work

i am starting to get frustrated thinkin bout the fuel tank and spare tyre :roll:

stuff a custom tank up under the tray and build a small cage round it with plate to slide on

(serious)

And get a space saver spare from a hatchback... put it under the front seat

4x35" tyres + 10" spare

(not so serious)

this is how I handled my spare tyre rack on the back of the cage of my Zuk. It is a loop of tube off the back with a big skid plate that holds it in and helps it slide over things

mate i love the idea of what your doing and for the same reasons as kids/friends in the back. so much that a month ago i started the same thing with one extra, the roof has gone and bars are going in there place.

I can only go by what my panel beater told me, but last year when I chopped my sixty down to a sort of extra cab type thing, he said that the strongest and cheapest way to do it is keep the rear-most pillar, and re-use it.

As I can see from the pics that you cannot really do that if you are wanting to achieve your straight up and down back panel, and chop it where you want to. So you would have to consider how you will make it structuarlly rigid enough along the back.

This is only coming from me because I have recently done it, so I thought I'd share the advice..... but thats about the extent of my expertise!! Others I am sure will have solutions and ways around this.

Not really a good idea for the rangie but it illustrates what I'm saying

Anthony , the hardest part about bobbing a rangie is joining the alloy skins cause to weld them all the way around you would have to be a shithot alloy welder , other wise how would you do it neatly ?
You can take a look at my link which has got a few pics to give you a few ideas , but it is a lot of work.
