when i first start the car the idle is fine but sometimes after a while and the engine heats up the idle will start to climb worst case is that it will sit on 2700rpm to 2900rpm ..
sometimes its alright and maintains about 1100rpm (probably a bit high but better than 2900rpm
also its eratic it will flutuate maybe 500rpm
im a complete noob when it comes to cars but due to financial reasons i think i better start learning how to fix the thing my self..
any ideas what this might be that is causeing the high revs, and flutuation.

The carb on a Zuk is a fussy thing, when its good it's very good .., when it's bad it is a total PITA.
I would pay the $$ and get it rebuilt and then make sure you have a clean fuel tank and run a couple of quality inline filters.

On my previous car, suzuki 89 sierra, i put a vitara carby on it, more power and a little more fuel, but overall a good idea, so you may wanna look at getting one of these. They bolt straight on which is good, just gotta block one of the water pipes as the vitara carby had one extra.
Also, remember that the choke is controlled by the water temp so make sure you have a good flow, clean water etc.
but as said in a previous message, when they are good they are great, when they play up they are very annoying...
after the change in carb, and removing the rear muffler for a better flowing one, i regained close to what i lost with the 31's (standard gearing)
I have this problem sometimes usually after i go playing in the dust
but an easy fix if this is the problem is to remove the idle solenoid and spray the crap out of it and into the hole it screws into with carby cleaner. leave it out overnight covered (in a seal plastic bag if possible) and cover the hole it screws into to stop any dust getting in. then in the morning screw it back in and crank it over you should find that it will run smoothly after doing this.
if your fuel is dirty then it will start doing the idle thing again a couple of days after you clean the solenoid.

usually i have to clean it maybe once every couple of months depends how often i go bush .
if it doesnt start giving me problems then i know i need to go for a drive
if ya aint willing to damage it then you shouldn't own it
..
