Boost Pressures

Hi guys. Just wandering what sort of boost pressures i can go up to SAFELY on my Patrols SD33T. I have noticed the wastegate opens at about 5.7psi (wastegates always open a tad before their set pressure).

Was just curious as to what I could go safely up to. The car has got a boost guage to read off, and I was thinking of getting a manually adjusted pressure control valve that everybody is selling.

my boost guage is a bit iffy, but i hit 7 punond if im up it, but normal driving i hit 5, it goes well, so im not complaining,

If you increase your boost?? say to 8lbs, are you going to increase fuelling so you get more power?
Boost alone wont do anything.

With petrol motors, you can wind the boost up until the injectors & pump can't supply enough fuel, or the compressed air get too hot (this is where an intercooler would be used).

Not too sure about diesels, but I reckon I could take it up to 8 or 9 pounds safely.

Diesel and petrol engines work differently with boost. A petrol engine you wind up the boost and add fuel to suit whereas with a diesel you wind up the fuel and add boost to suit. Boost alone won't do much.

The origianal sd33t has a boost compensator that is said to follow pressure up to about 12,8 PSI. Look at the rear of your intake manifold, there should be a thin tube running from there around the back of the engine and into the diesel injection pump.
I'm running 10.7 PSI on mine whitout adjusting the pump, and i notice a considerable increase in power. Scroll down here and see how i did it: http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... hp?t=17281
Engine intake temperature is another issue to have in mind. I've been recommended not to go further up in pressure before attaching an intercoler, but i know people up here who's been running at 17PSi with a cut-down truck intercooler

Yeah, I've been thinking of the intercooler idea, but i need a donor bonnet (couldn't bring myself to cutting my good one), small intercooler and all the piping. I reckon I could get my body lift and new (second hand) 35" muddies for the same price.

Hhhmmm... decisions, decisions.

Anyone got pics from SD33T intercooler setups? I was wondering front or top mount? Haven't got the cooler yet, just planning..

I ran 18 psi with an intercooler in the MK. Went quite well, although TD42 is much better. I had the Mk dynoed and set up correctly though
