engine conversion on feroza
I am looking to get some more power out of the might feroza, i have to engines lying around and i have throught about doing some research and seeing how hard it would be to do the conversions. I have a V6 commo engine and a 2.4lt rodeo motor. If you can get a v6 in to a zook i cant see why you couldnt do it to the feroza
2inch body lift, 2inch suspension lift, 30/9.50/15 muddies, pacemaker extractors
The V6 Commondore engine will be easier to get in
BUT
you will need to mate it to an appropriate gearbox/t-case setup as you will not be able to get a bell housing kit from anyone to mate it to your existing box.
SO
If you're gonna do that much and drop a toyo box in.....you may as well go the 'whole hog' and change front a rear diifs to match the toyo boxes and if you're going to that extreme, you may as well do a SPOA conversion !!!!
Currently only 2 or 3 SPOA / V6 Feroza's in the world......we need another one !!!

Something like that is a bottomless money pit - you really need to have friends in the industry who will help you out (or be very good with mechanicals yourself.) Then you've got to look at getting the thing registered and approved....
If it was me I'd be looking at another 4WD that's more capable to start with.

as David said.... as a 4by. If it doesnt cut it for yuou, get something that does. not too many standard 4bys have a heep of guts anyway.
But if your chasin ponies, why not look at turboing the Feroza? Rebuild, set-up for the whizzer, it should work. Sell your other engines to finance part of it. But, again as David said, make sure its regoed and insurable. I hate it when people spend thousands on cars, but then find out it cant be insured.

Standard rims, 235/75 Scorpion A/T is what I am running on it. I know that I am probably just expecting to much from the old girl but I would like more. When I give it stick after around 4000 rpm it blows heaps of darb out the exhaust too. I don't know maybe it goes alright for a feroza I don't know never lined one up but to me it just doesn't seem to go anywhere.?.?.

Timing is sweet. Maybe the tyres although I found another feroza this morning and didn't lose. So maybe I just want the performance of a normal road car and don't get it.
I will be either getting the motor I have now rebuilt or getting another motor. What suggestions do people have. Ithink the v6 is a bit out of the budget although it would be nice

getting hold of the engine and associated parts is no worry, and for means of doing the work i am a mechanic by trade so i am able to do most of the work and what i cant do i have plenty of connections. A engine conversion will definatley be coming along soon, and the feroza is the perfect car, how many people modify suzuki for example. why not be different and do up the feroza. i also have a turbo sitting in my garage which i have thought bout bolting on it is just a matter of working out which conversion to do and how much i can afford. All the mods on the car i have done on my own so far now i just have to work out how much to do a motor conversion

4X4ROZA - Before you start hacking into an engine conversion, best to sit down and shout your Engineer 'Friend' a drink or two......and OK it with him.......if you want to keep it road registered......ask him his thoughts about which conversion he will engineer, his costs....etc.
We here at OL are very keen to see lots of pics and words about your forthcoming heart transplant for your beast.....so keep us posted about what the Engineer says is alright to do.

I recall reading somewhere (probably 4wd monthly) that the strength of a vitara gearbox is comparable to that of a hilux gearbox. If so, together with the availability of lower tx gearing then this is a great option IMO.
Dont expect mere proof to sway my opinion.
IIRC the early 1.6 Vits were carby and didn't have as much power as the Feroza's 70kW. Just found a 1990 model (carby) has only 55kW and 123Nm.... A 1995 model (EFI) still only has 71kW and and 133Nm ...
I think here in SA you can increase the capacity up to a certain percentage without too many dramas. If your state is the same then the later 2.0l Vitara engine could be a good choice - 94 kW and
166 Nm.

Have had a look at Adelaide Jap imports and they have a Detomaso for sale. $1750 for the engine package (ECU and Wiring). I have called the daihatsu autorecyclers here in Brisbane and I can get an exchange for $950. They have in stock also. I had a look under the bonnet this morning and found water leaking from the block . So I am in need of that motor very soon. So as much as I would like the Detomaso I think that I will just go the Feroza exchange. Hoping after changing ALL the hoses and Thermostate and Radiator should come in under $2500.00

I dont see the point in putting a vitara motor in the car what is the point of going to all that trouble to put the same size motor in the car, if i was gonna do that i would have just bought a vitara, but i have something against suzuki's, i dont like them because i think to many people overate them.
I am looking into doing the turbo conversion on the standard feroza motor, it is just a matter of doing a quick rebuild to toughen it up a bit slapping a set of forge pistons in it and dropping the compression, not alot of mods would be needed due to running low boost, i already have a small turbo, it is set up for low revs due to it coming of a diesel. i have to look in to getting bigger inj and probably a haltec engine management system, i would do all the wiring myself, i would just have to get the manifold made up to suit the turbo, as for rego purpose i have my pinkslip license so do you think rego inspect worry me

Your right, vitara engines are just as piss weak as a feroza engine.
It was suggested by Ferwoaza because you then have the option of lower gearing for your trasfer case.
But if your happy with your current crap gearing then so be it.
Dont expect mere proof to sway my opinion.

There are a number of turbo HD-E engines getting around in both Ferozas and Charades. The engine internals normally aren't the problem (unless you're planning on running high levels of boost?)- it's the gearbox you should be investigating.
I had some contact with a guy who had a Feroza he raced in off road events. It was a 1.8l turbo and he said one of his pit crew worked in a transmission joint and had manufactured a replacement part to fix the third gear failures. I tried to get more info from him, but he didn't want to share.... Before the "fix" they had gone through numerous boxes.

Everyone seems to worry to much about doing all these little extra when modifing a car, i have done many modifications before, you can not research everything before you do the conversion, basically the only way you will really find out want you need to change is by experimenting, you might go and do all this research to find out about changing something, then you find that something will not work. Do the basic which are need, of course you will have to strenghten the drive train, do that then when you have it going if you find something aint strong enough then look into doing something bout it.
and of course the engine internal are a problem, you could put a turbo on a standard motor, for 1 a motor that is starting to get a little tried will not handle a turbo and 2 you cant run a turbo on standard compression, and the only way to fix that is to drop compression by either putting concaved pistons or a thicker head gasket. so you might as well drop in a set of forged concaved pistons
