Can someone advise me what the thread on the alternator bolts on a 1994 tdi 300 would be.
We finally were forced to pull the intercooler out of the machine so that we could hammer an impact socket onto the bottom one and use the rattle gun on it. The top nut came off the but bolt was seized where it went thru on the side of the water pump housing.
The whole lot finally shifted after my mate hammered a 9mm socket onto the head of the top bolt and hanging off a breaker bar with me hitting the other end with a hammer. Finished off with a rattle gun and a pair of pliers to put some tension on the bolt to encourage it to come out of the hole.
Will be putting it back together with copper grease.
Thread appears to be metric according to the bolt place but I have tried the ones they gave me in the threaded bottom hole and it seems a bit loose.

Reading this thread reminds me of a dental experience. I cringe.
As for the bolt, I thought the harmonic balancer bolt threads on my V8 were metric, I had to buy longer bolts for my puller to remove it , I took it to a bolt shop and they turned out to be UC. maybe yours are too? Very similar thread to metric
