Changing diff oil

Post by TUFFRANGIE »

I am changing my rear diff oil today and it is a bit contaminated with water and crap, should i flush out the old oil remenants in some way or just drain and refill with the new oil?

I don't want to semi contaminate the new oil with the left over old oil remenats. Thanks for your help

i put a little bit of diesel in mine and drove say 20-30m just to flush it out, and when draining make sure the lowest point is the drain nut.

in a GQ the drain plug is a low point but not the lowest, if it was at the lowest, i dont think i will be able to drain my oil as i would have mangled the drain plug :D mmmm, bigger tyres, more diff clearance.

ps, my front drain plug was mangled, had to grind the 1/2" hole bigger to fit the bit in
