No FWD in feroza

Post by crowey »

G'day all

I went out for a bit of a play yesterday and have discovered that with my front hubs locked in.. i dont have front wheel drive.

I know that i broke an engine mount, but would that have anything to do with it??

And yes i found out the hard way...... in a rut!

No that i can see... the CV's come straight out of the transfer case.... i cant spin them manually when the hubs are locked, which apparently means they are not broken

They are not stupid questions.... and yes it was definately going into 4wd you could hear the selector clicking in to both H4 and L4.... when its in L4 there is heaps of movement on the gear sticks in the car due to the broken engine mount, alot more than when its in 2wd thats how i knows its engaging.... any other ideas?

Could it be from a broken engine mount?

What if you weren't able to get the transfer shifter all the way into 4WD due to the engine / trans moving from the broken mount?

Yeah all these things were all going around in my head yeasterday going through the ruts in sheidow park in 2wd.

I played around with the shifter and it definatly sounds like its going in (without force)... i am going to get the engine mount fixed and ill get the boys at cross country 4x4 to see what else they can find

Crowey,

I think you had it the wrong way around, with you hubs locked, you shouldn't be able to spin your front driveshafts. If you can... then you front hubs have seized in the unlocked position. I'm pretty sure when i checked them they were ok but you never know!

I thought they were clamping down on vehicles going in there? Don't think I'd try going through there again considering how many times I got hung up last time....

If they're clamping down on it then they're using plastic toy pliers as you could probably go threw there with sirens and flashing lights and still no one would catch ya. Besides... you can actually contact the land owners and sign a disclaimer stating that if you kill or injure yourself its your own fault. Removing them from liability.

Update

I had the front wheels off to replace the front pads.. I noticed that when i had the hub on the drivers side locked in and spun the disc, the shaft spun and turned the shaft on the passengers side also.

BUT: when i locked the pass. side hub in and spun the disc, it didnt make the shaft spin, which to me means that there is a problem with that hub??

Any ideas??

Sounds like your left hub isn't locking in. I was under mine today and could spin either side by hand with them both unlocked (other side would spin in opposite direction.)

Tried to spin the front prop shaft by hand by couldn't- would have though you would be able to with the hubs unlocked and transfer in 2WD? :?
