what Bosch alternator have you made fit your carby GQ?

Post by marin »

i'm up for a newy, just had the racv guy here tell me its kaput (after i farked around with it for ages this morn). What Bosch off the shelf alternator have you made fit into yours, how many amps is it and what bracket mods did you have to do to fit it in? The closest in bracket size i have found in the new catalogue is only 55 amps, and damned if i'm making up modifing brackets for a 5 amp increase, i was hoping for about 80 or 90 amp.

p.s. pics would be good :)

One off a L28 MQ and it was higher amperage. Just had to make the hole bigger and it went straight on.

I got a 120 amp unit from the local auto elec. It was HQ holden mounting pattern. The only mod to fit it to the TB42 was cutting the bent section out of the adjustment bracket. Apart from that it bolts strait up.

Might be worth having the alternator looked at again ................

I was told mine was farked and it was going to cost big $$$ to replace, but after some investigation it turned out all it needed was a new regulator - end result was $60
