A bar of antenas?

Post by bruiser »

Can some one help me out

Seen a FWD go past with four large antena's atcheched to the front bar as well as the car radio antena, making 5 total. Two were those giant 7 foot white things and two medum size ones

Not the first time i've seen this.
What the f$%#'s doin here.

Should I be taking the piss out of these people or are they for real?

The guy might be a radio enthusiast, ex military or similar. He might think some of the mods we do to our rigs are odd too...

I'd say he is an amateur radio operator....but, he is breaking the law. You are only allowed 1 high gain (ie thick) aerial on the bullbar, but you can have numerous stainless whips etc.
I have three aerials plus radio...UHF, 27Mhz Marine, and a VHF I use to scan Fire Service frequencies.

Two definetly looked like high gain UHF's.
If this is the case would you be running two separate UHF radios.
Is this possible, becuase I know when I have the handheld next to the car one it goes crazy.

They are probably high gain VHF antennas. Radios work ok beside each other, providing cabling etc is all in good nick. Just a question, is your handheld a cheapy? Mine is and it goes crazy when my UHF is on scan, but expensive UHF's don't seem to be worried!

Yeah like mine. got mine for a similar purpose, and also when doing recoveries etc, they are great for that sort of purpose, especially for the price. But I don't think they are built with much shielding!

One of my uni mates went to work for Telstra when he graduated. He was involved in (I think?) laying a fibre-optic cable across the Nullabor, and spent a lot of time out there in a Telstra vehicle (Commodore or similar, not 4by.)

When he got pulled over by the police, the officer stuck his head in the window, started the usual spiel and then stopped when he saw the dash was covered in radios.

When the copper asked "Who do you talk to?" my mate replied "Anyone I want!"

I've got

UHF
Digital phone
AM/FM
27 Mhz
GPS (although this one is tiny).

Generally leave the 27Mhz antenna in the garage though.

I keep 3x UHF's in the Jeep, 2 in-car ones and a $99 uniden hand-held for recoveries and 'poor' 4wd'ing mates. I'm usually on channel to my mates with one in-car uhf and the other (combo unit) is either tuned to the police or ch 40 if we're doing hwy miles.

On thinking about it, it doesn't take much to add heaps of aerials with mobile phones, uhf, cb, scanners etc...

:D Exactly what I was thinking!

Hit a bump too hard, that maglite will pop straight out of those clips.

But that may not be an issue in a bling pimp-mobile. :finger:

Theres a chick crossing the road, just at that moment a van with twenty antenas comes round the corner and screaches to a halt.
The chick falls over dead.
A couple of by standers run up. one says to the other "did he bowl her"
The other one says "nope" "looks like a seriouse case of VAN ARIEL desease to me."
I used to think wayne ker value but it is easy to put a large numbr of antenas on when you get seriouse about comunications.
Unlike lights.
Hope you cant see that dvd player while your driving, cos if your watching it and run into me its going to be a pritty part of my new tyres.
Said in the nicest possible way of course.
Im sure there would be a number of parents that would share my veiw on that tho.

Some parents like their kids to be able to pronounce articulate and understandable sentences so others who may read their written thoughts have a general understanding of the context in which it was written.

...said in the nicest possible way of course... ;)
