New diesel engines to power your toys
Hello to all from the Great White North, Canada
you say what the h&ll Canada has to say to us??
Well there are a few new diesel engines on the world market, (My fault) that are biofuel friendyl and have some great history.
The 2.8 TGV is derivied from the 300 TDI, R380 bolts up to it. 135 HP and 277 ft Lb of torque at 1400 RPM.
the new 3.0 NGD that will be released to my company in July will be an electronic engine that can be run at 144 HP or in SUV version at 185 HP.
These engines are built to last with B10 ratings of 180,000 miles and 240,000 miles.
Yes there is a 4.5 Lt v-6 twin turbo that will pull down buildings in the right truck.
Thanking you for your time.
Questions just send then I will nswer all.

Stephen, I think your biggest problem trying to sell to this forum is that most of us are located in Australia. On top of the engine cost is freight cost import tax.
Guys (aussie guys that is) do we pay GST on imports too and if so is it on top of goods cost + freight + import duties???

Hello Gentlemen
I just got off the phone with a chap in Melbourne that is going to be having a few engines sent to him..
I keep the shipping costs down by shipping direct from the factory.
If you compare the 2.8 to a 300TDI it is sometimes called twice the engine.
Quick comparison between the 2.8 and the TD5 from South Africa, two D90 units with the same load in them, the 2.8 left the TD5 behind going up hill.
You have to look at costs from a point of fuel mileage and how long it will last before needing a rebuild. When you have an engine that will only need oil and filter changes for 240,000 miles and 3 timing belts that is a good thing.
He is working with A Land Rover shop to do the fitting if needed.
We hope to have the shipping cost nailed down this week.
For those interested send me an Email and I will put you in touch with the company that will be looking after the engines in Australia.
I have been told there is one in a Discovery Down Under!!!!
Thanking all

Price all up including fitting was around fifteen big ones. What surprised me was the amount of people constantly calling up prepared to spend that kind of money on older 200 TDI disco's and Defenders.
The 2.8 powerstroke seems like an excellant engine though, with most if not all the Rovers silly design faults engineered out. Performance and lowspeed pulling power is far superior to the 300 TDI's with barely discernable turbo lag. I would say it is probably on par with the TD5 without all electronic witchcraft and future maintenance nightmares.
Bill.

for all that amount of money you could fit a rebuilt chev 6.5 turbo diesel and fit a GQ box and apdaters for the landy
why waste your money on a power stroke

I'd say the big v8td weighs a hell'eva lot more than a 4cyl td. Also the diffs in the landrover might not last as long as a landcruiser or patrol. That and the fact that it could probably be serviced by most landrover dealers. Also when inquiring to brunswick about the v8 into the disco we were told the biggest motor that could fit in was a 6.2l v8 without modifications whereas a powerstroke would slip straight in. For practicality purposes I would choose a powerstroke.
Just as a side note/question don't the company that make the powerstoke (International engines) also make fords 7.3L v8 td?
Hello To all
International Engines makes a very large selection of engines.
They build the 300 TDI for Land Rovers Export market in Brazil.
They build Perkins of some sort.
They build /built the 7.3 (discontinued) the 6.0 is taking its place with more HP and torque. The new engines are a a lot cleaner than the old. They have to meet the new Euro IV standards and the EPA 2007 and 2012 standards (Yank) regs.
They build 500 to 700 HP Plus engines for the long haul trucks I do not know what you would call these monsters in Australia.
I never get into flame war in a fourm as I do not have time. But I will say that GM dumped the 6.5 as it had to many problems.I know people that put the 6.5 into a Defender and it is coming out as it was just too heavy.
Break twist snap is a bad combination. In using a 2.8 replacing the tired 300TDI it is a pretty straight forward operation.

Hello David
Well if you were in Nova Scotia and drove into Halifax from the airport you were 5 KM from my home.
Newfoundland is very ER Unique!!! We call it the Rock. Sorry I do not know your friend by the spelling of his name.
Imported vehicles have to be 15 years old to import into Canada or go through all the same hoops you have to do in Australia. Mind you we do not have to change from RHD to LHD.
I must say I like the 6X6 conversions done in your part of the world.
Plus 2 C and the snow is melting!!!!

Hello to all
I just got 5 short video clips of the freshly installed engine in a disco.
for those that would like to see and hear the engine at work ,I can post them somewhere close to you .They are 1.5 meg each. I know I will get more from Terry in the next while. Looka cool him driving down the freeway in Nevada with no bonnet/hood on the truck.Spedo shows 75 miles an hour Tac at 2000 RPM. I think his tac is off by 200 RPM.
