I wanna get high
I wanna get high
I was out and about in the Vut today when I passed a 4WD shop. popped in and inquired about puting 1" lift in the suspension and maybe 1" in the body.
He said the suspension can't be done and I should raise the body then go bigger tyres.
is this true?

I didn't think I could ge much higher than 30 inch. If I have the room, I'll go 31's.

In other words the brand he's getting th emost markup on doesnt sell it so he doesnt want to sell you something else cos he's too damn lazy to pick up the phone.
Try Dobinsons, OME, TJM, Kings, Calmini, Toughdog, Big Balls etc etc etc etc who all sell lifted springs.
Waht you will find though is many limit the spring lift to about 30-40mm.... Still more than stock by a long way.
30" is a good combo on either 2" suspension and 1" body or coil spaces and 1" body.
Coil spacers (15mm front 30mm rear meaning 30mm lift) will set you back about $120. A proper suspension kit will be $700 and up.
Body lift will be $2-400. All prices obviously without fitting.
You want 2+2" for 31"s and a bit over 2" for 30"s.
You can lift with just bolt on gear and get it engineered
This one runs 32"
Ring KAOS they are the distributors on the east coast for all things Calmini, they are also becoming the place for all thing Vitara

Nice one Chris
LTDHO - we have had a vit running 31's with just a 2 inch body lift as well as another vit running 33's with no lift, just coil spacers and cutting
search humvit for pics

sorry about the size of the pic, i dont have any pics on this pc, so it was linked. (and yes, i know, i need to get new pics)
3+3 lift
31"s (next set will be 33"s, but aiming for 35")
you can fit 31"s on the vitara with a slight fender trim and the handy services of a BFH. thats how i started. this is with no lift. its better if you can get a set of 1" coil spacers though.
calmini is very good, but will cost you your dreams to get it. i'm still dreaming.
what do you plan for your vitara? did you mention that your mum drives it everyday? maybe you dont want to get too serious yet, but if you can get it, go the OME kit, new coils all round, new shocks and new struts. way better ride, and about 30mm lift?
i spent a total of $300 on my 3+3 lift, and i also got it rego'd up here (darwin). may have probs elsewhere. but do it once, do it right.
good luck. cheers.

This is what I was thinking, if it's cheaper.

Nothing major, I have only had it off road once. It was originally bought because it was cheap. I found when I was off road it crunched alot, so a couple of inches in hight will help.

Steve, I was thinking 1"or more in tyre (maybe 30 or 31's), 1" in suspension and 1" in body, total 3 or more higher. This is all I want.

Muppet man, I will keep that in mind. What time does it start?
Also I am serious about mum driving it, so I can't go too high that she can't get in it!
Thanks to everyone else for your advice, keep them coming. I have sorted the 1" body lift (thanks CRUSHU) and hopefully will get something for the suspension soon.

Do you want to keep it all legal and get it engineered? If so I'd suggest you have a talk to Dave Stannus at Protech down in Carrum as he is close to you. He will probably allow no more than 4" total lift including tyres.

Sounds like you'll end up with something that I considered about my best combination of offroad ability without too much onroad compromise on my vitara.
1" body lift (easier than the later 35mm - only mod get rid of the hard rubber gearshift boot and use a vynil one like most cars).
30" muddies
15mm spacers front (30mm lift - I actually cheated and used a 30mm one and shaved it down a bit to suit my 50mm lift requirement) and strut mount flip
and either 30mm rear spacer or Datusn sunny rear springs (I used both for about 60mm lift) - with longer shocks.
That's still pretty good on the road.
Next comes the locker

Ahhhhhh, the locker.....
.....hmmmmm.....
..... i love it, but my mum refuses to drive my vit now.
tech: i think the locker isnt such a high priority for a DD. i reckon just do the OME kit and 30"s, and you'll be laughing. u may be surprised at what a vit with an OME kit and 30"s can go.... well, a lot further than a stocker anyway.
