Inner fenders

Post by nicbeer »

What have people done with their inner fenders when doing a guard chopping? thinking of doin mine but unsure how thay are connected and what to do bout the airbox and battery bits. I have seen christovas pics and like that idea and just seeing everybody elses.

I would like to keep the batt in the front and a proper airbox because snorkel is going on in the next couple months.

It is a narrow track as well. running 31's 2" spring lift which is sagging. I am thinking of 2" BL soon to combat this issue in conjuction with longer flatter springs.

cheers

Same here nicbeer
Just cut folded and welded. It helps heaps if you have some WT flares to cover the lip.

Nick PM me if you want some as I have a set lying around. Note though that all four have been dented. You would need to repaint them anyway so you could just bog them up.

Cool, how far did you cut up from stock? I had a quick look and it looks like you only get about a 1" before the inner fender interfere's with it.

Has anyone got the guard chopping pix from when Dewse or NAM did his chopping?

How are the inner and outer held together? Tack welds.

cheers

I split my inner every 25mm or so, back to the point where inner goes flat, about 40 -50mm in. Then folded it upwards till it met the outer, leaving enuff of the inner to meet the outer, then pop rivitted them together...this left most of the structural support in the guards in place.
I cut the outer at same level as the flat part of inner. Then tar paint hid it all. The headlight bucket was cut out and replaced with rubber sheet.

They are now also bringing in the sets of Bushwacker 6" flares to suit Sierra as in the picture.

Can someone explain how the tabs are folded? Are the inner guard ones just tucked back under the guard followed by the outer, then rivit the lot? Or have they been bent up the inside of the outer guard.

Looks good and I'm going to try it, but this bits got me confused?

Also - I notice your roll bar is mounted on your inner guard, will this maintain the original strength (Dont want to find out the hard way)
