Type of exhast for 3.9 Disco V8

Type of exhast for 3.9 Disco V8
Hey,
I have a 3.9 V8 going in my 76 Rangie. I need to sort an exhaust of some sorts for obvious reasons.
Do you guys have any recommendations on the type of exhaust system that would work best with this engine ?
I am looking for a set of extractors as we speak, who make the best set ?
Cheers Guys

I have a tired 3.5 in my 2dr, but I recently replaced the entire exhaust. I used manifolds from an EFI Disco (not sure what year - I found them by ringing around exhaust places for good sets that they had kept after fitting extractors). These are 4-2, so need twin-pipe drops to suit an 86 Rangie. These I got through Justin C (new from UK I think, probably the most expensive bit). I put the manifolds and drops on and then got the exhaust place to fab me up a new Y-piece. Probably could have just slip jointed the new drops to the old Y-piece but mine was rooted. A little while later (when I could afford it again) I had the same exhaust place do the rest. I got a Berklee straight through muffler plus a Berklee glass packed resonator 'dog', with new tubing. The engine seems to breathe so much freer (definitely revs out better) and I sounds good too. Total cost was: ~$600.
You could go for extractors instead but this way is heaps cheaper and I think thes manifolds are pretty close to being just as good (I think Philip A will agree)

I would also agree
For how much extractors cost, it's worth a bit fiddling around. I have lined up a set of extractors cheap so I have a couple of sets of EFI manifolds if anyone needs sone (no flanges though)

I upgraded my Rangie system to a set of HPC coated extractors and then into a 2 & 3/4 inch single pipe...the muffler bloke said you can't go any bigger with the 3.5V8 as they need back pressure. If I give a boot full when cold, I do get the occasional pop when backing off. Still, overall, it has an awesome sound.
There is just a lukey highflow muffler in the middle.
The extractors made a huge difference to power.
But I have had to replace a flange gasket already. The muffler shop said it was from going through water and the sudden decrease in temperature wrecks the gaskets. Small price to pay
Cheers

Cheers for the replies guys.
86Mud: where did you get your HPC coated extractors from and how much if you dont mind me asking ?
Philip A: Im also using a round disco crossmember so i should be right for disco extractors right ?
If extractors are to expensive I will prolly go with 3.9 injected manifolds as recommended.

I had the extractors made by a place called Custom Exhaust Systems located in Brisbane...their website is www.cesracing.com.au. They then send the extractors to another company for coating. The coating drops the heat down so much on the V8..
cheers

Ben,I think the issue is more whether the exhausts will fit over the crossmember. If you are using a ZF auto, then probably no, if an LT 95 then yes.
But the extractors point a different direction depending on whether over or under, so you have to know where you plan to run the pipes prior to buying the extractors.
