early 80 series big end bearings
Those who own them all know about the problem (faulty shells), I bought mine a year ago and was told the bearings were done on a recall. Just to be sure i pulled the sump off and one of the caps to check, they had been replaced some time in 1998 (stanped on the shell) but had some wear but also some pitting . So I replaced the lot to be safe as the bearings themselves are pretty cheap (about $35 if you no someone in the business) and it only takes about 4 to 5 hours to do the job. If you have one it would be worthwhile checking as mine had only done about 80,000k's since the bearings were replaced. will put on some pics in a few days
