KNocking noise, need help

Post by thepatroldude »

G-day all, for the past month, have heard this knocking or thud noise (gradually getting worse) under the drivers side floor. When I brake hard, turn sharply or accelerate quickly it will create this knocking noise. Much like a small rock hitting the under body sound.

We have check directly under the drivers side floor and found nothing that could hit. We also thought it could of been a loose steering compartment which vibrated through the steering, yet all is tight. Recently did a body lift and thought a body block came loose but all are tight. So it seems to be a mystery noise, is it a engine mount transfering this vibration or something in the gear box. Help is needed as I'm not sure what to check next. Cheers all!

Body mounts sometimes take a while to settle back in after a body lift. The lift blocks must be the same diameter as the body mounts themselves. Check also that there are no cracks in the channel where the mounts bolts to.

I went to pedders for one of those $10 or $15 safety checks.

I suspected it was the radius arm moving side to side hitting the mounting bracket due to shagged bushes making a noise. BUT I did not tell pedders this or about the noise I was getting, just to see what they might come up with.

To my surprise they spotted the shagged bushes and even told me that there were signs of contact with the brackets. :D

Sooo I guess thats my mystery "thud" noise I get which really only occurs when driving in wet conditions.
Dont expect mere proof to sway my opinion.

Body mount rubbers are *****

show me where a knocking noise has been confirmed to be radius arm bushes on a GQ using your magical 'search' button????

Do you have that phrase permanently saved ready to paste as soon as anyone asks a question? Its no wonder your post count is so high!

Also if the answer to every question is on the search function, why have a forum at all - why not just have outerlimits faq or www.outerlimitssearchfacility.com ?

sometimes people actually post a question in the hope of attaining a sensible answer! :!:
