I've read about these Sumitomo Serengeti tyres and am wondering if anyone has used them, and if so how long do they last, Are they really terrible on the black top, Do they have any serious problems, etc. I am tossing up whether to go for a set or to get a little more money for a more well known brand.
Thanks
Thanks

Our Patrol thread is here: http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/sutra1630148.php#1630148
A mate has them on a GQ Patrol and they seem to have worn fairly well. In line with any other muddy I'd say. I think he has done about 50K on them and they are still borderline. They are well past their prime, but still reasonably useful.
I have neve heard him complain about them onroad either. We do a lot of trips together on and off the road and I can honestly say I've never heard him say they were not so good on the road.
I read the 4wd monthly article and did wonder about the poor performance on road cause his seem to be fine.
After seeing them perform in mud and general trail stuff, I'd say go for them.
i had the 33/12.5 serengeti a/t and paid ~$120/tyre.
they are alright. didn't really chip but i thought they were a tad on the soft side, i couldn't see getting 50k out of them. (sold the truck so who knows now)
it you can't afford a better tyre, they are a great option (for what i paid they were great).
what terrain / % on and off road?
there are lots of opinions that could steer you in the best direction.

Don't know if this is true or not but I was told that the only reason the tyres were cheap was for the distributor in melbourne to get their foot in the door.

My mate has 31 Serengetti (think - thas the mud one yeah?)
He THRASHES the crap out of his truck, day in and day out, on and off road and we have done a number of HWY kms too as its our regular hunting mobile.... they are quiet on black top, handle pretty darn well and wear fairly well - I recon he got 30,000 out of em.... BUT, like I said he drives it like he stole it, smokes em on rocks, mud n dirt n sand he kills em all day long n they held up well.
Until we went out with shorty 40 n a coupla others!!! Then we ripped holes in sidewayys in bog hole with logs in it....
