Zf 4 or LT95

Post by lumpyclod »

Hey Guys

Yep I have yet another question

For those that dont know Im building up a 76 2 door Range Rover with a 3.9 in it. I have both an LT95 and a ZF 4 speed in my shed, which one should I run ?

I want to run the LT95 because I have fears that the ZF will sap the power out of my 3.9  but I have to buy a clutch for the LT95 ($$$) where as the ZF is ready to go.

this is my dilema :? :?:

Considering the same optioins myself .
IMHO 90% of 4wding is better in an auto.
Apart from descents (gearing can fix this)
Stall stops and starts.
It takes some of the ( fun work judjement ) out of it.
I'm lucky in that the RR lt95 is my DD but I don't have to travel far to work .
Its a question that you must way up for yourself.

out of my mind, back soon.

All Im really concerned with is how much power the ZF will sap. If its going to make the 3.9 a slug then I will go with the LT95.

IMO you will feel the 3.9 peppier with ZF, at least if you are not very aggresive with your gear changes on manual. Just kick down and get instant power.

When i changed from lt77 to TF727 on my old 3.5 I felt it as a power increase, because I used more revs and smoother full throttle accelerations.

The power sap figures that circulate are not a very good representation of reality.

Go ZF and don't look back.

drove a RR with an injected 3.9 and auto. It was very noticably slower than my gas powered carby fed 4.4 with R380

Lumpy didn't mention his 3.9 will be carby

Go the ZF auto

'Bout to do the same to my 83 Rangie giving the LT95 the big A, next month sometime. You just can't beat and auto off-road bar the downhill braking issue (not a problem if you know how to drive :D ).

Good luck with it and enjoy.
