Cruiser VS Lux Diffs
ok, i'm trying to piece together a front diff, but we have so many diffs lying around, that its giving us headaches and i wanted to confirm some things
1. Cruiser diffs (40/45/75 series etc.) pumpkins are offset something like 40-50 more towards the centre of the diff compared to a lux correct?
2. Cruiser diffs pumpkins are about 30-40mm bigger in diameter (top to bottom) compared to a lux correct?
3. The balls on the end of the diffs are the same size between the early cruisers and hilux diffs, thus meaning that i could interchange the complete hub setup between a lux diff and a cruiser diff???
4. Would a hilux 5.29 centre fit into an early model hilux front?
5. How much wider is the cruiser front compared to the lux front? 2-3 inches???
6. Who has shaved a front cruiser housing? how much could you gain?
any info would be good

AKAIK all solid axle lux centres are interchangeable, howevere the drive shaft flange pattern may vary. Easy enough to get the right flange for your application though.

Stick an 80 series cruiser front centre in your lux housing. bolts straight in though you may need to do a body lift then an engine lift depending on your up travel. High pinion = much stronger.
The only cruiser diffs that are wider than a hilux are 60 series or 80 series.
40,55 and 70 series cruisers are the same width as a hilux.
The Hilux 5.29 centre wont fit in a cruiser diff. The knuckles and brakes from a cruiser housing can be fitted to the hilux housing and visa versa. However ZJ75 or 80series knuckles and brakes wont swap onto the Hilux housings.
The cruiser housing centre section is physicaly larger in size than the hilux one. But the easiest way to identify the two is that a hilux housing is spring over and a cruiser housing is spring under.

I think 78 series (coil front) are a bit wider than all previous 75 series, but not as wide as 80 series and run hi pinion lux centre and unique CV size?
Some of the 70 series ran high pinion hilux front centre- Bundera and some 1990+ MWB cruisers (leaf, sprung under), but all same width apparently.

front diff
I run a shaved hilux front with an 80 series centre. I reckon I've gained up to 10mm extra clearance-which isnt huge but added with front plating which is angled down with a flat bottom it slides over rocks better. The HP 80 is better for drive line angle and is better than the back for damage to the shaft. Hope this helps.

ive got an 80 series lokka in spool housin, does that mean if i get the rest of tha diff centre togetha it will fit tha front of my lux, but will be high pinion? and if it does fit would the ratio's be the same as the lux or would i hav to change the rear lux ratio's to suit, its a 3L.
