Newbie help needed pls ..

Post by clubs »

Hi new to the forum,
wondering if any of you can give me some opinions and advice on purchasing my first four wheel drive,
idealy i would like a duel cab ute wether it is a lux or triton not sure if the trirons are as good as the luxes ,
the thing is i want it to be a capable offroader aswell as having pulling power for long trips possibly towing.
have looked at a few luxes and a mid ninetys v6 3 litre 5 speed manual four runner but they seem to lack a bit of power for my application.
My price range is up to $12.000.
Probably have to consider some engine conversion what are some reasonably common and reliable conversions.
Anyfeed back is much appreciated .
Thank - You.

with ya budget i would consider buying an earlier model duel cab lux and putting a v6 from a commodore in it... the dearest bit will be the adaptor and small bits provided you can do all the work yourself... check the for sale section on this forum as im sure there was a few for sale on here not long back which might save you a lot of trouble.....a new model triton would be great for towing but not so great offroad....suspension lift is maxxed at 2 inch i think ( correct me if im wrong ) due to torsion bar front end...... the leaf sprung lux gives you heap more options

I pick up my triton in a few days 2000 model with low k's getting it at a good price and i know where its been since new!

they aren't cheap if you can find a good one same with hilux's too

FWIW the triton has a massive turning circle which makes tracks/trails harder etc but towing, loads etc they are quite good mines got a long range tank and big suspension in the rear and a few weeks ago the mrs and i drove it to sydney and back 4hrs in sydney then went back home

Mrs loved it nice to drive etc so that was a bonus!!
I like the adjustable steering column height the most as it gives it a car sort of feel when your going long distances

Check out ebay regulary as there are a few DC's going usually just location that you got to watch!!
