ok, tryed the search function and i think it hates me, cant find any thing on there, been thinking about a 6.5 chev v8 diesel in the gq and was wondering if any one has any photos of this conversion, also read the section in the gq bible on this swap but apart from the torque snapping c.v's what are the other con's of this conversion, how well do the turbo versions fit, what gearboxes are being used, if i can get all the bits i can do the swap my self so if i gotta make anything ive got that covered no worries but what would i need in the way of fuel system stuff, currently have a 308 and td42 5 speed, if i can source a motor, get a kit from marks 4x4 what else am i going to need, any help, info and lots of photo's would be great

from memory, the 6.2 turbo motors need to be moved forward a little as the turbo is down low against the firewall, otherwise the only thing i know is that the motor will set you back about 14 for a crate motor and about 8 for a dog out of a suburban.

if you're prepared to spend the money, why not the newer 7.3 power stroke TD motor out of the f250s, now no longer available (new f trucks are getting a smaller dodge derived motor, i think)

that motor hauls ass,

I don't think so and this is the limiting factor.

pretty sure the 7.3 power stroke is backed up by a 4L80E auto, which i know Marks makes an adapter to adapt a Landcruiser split transfer case(cruisers up to 75S)

i might be wrong, but Marks probably also make an adaptor to for this auto to a GQ transfer.

4L80E is a pricy auto but, think they are behind small blocks chev motors in some pontiac coupes (ala GM monaro) as well/

thanks for the reply's guys, the aricle in the ible doesn't really say much about the conversion it self like what went wrong, what fits what doesnt, what had to be modified, good tech points on the swap just so i know what i'd be up against

im more interested in the chev especially the turbo version than the ford 7.3 cause if you have ever seen one in a f-250 engine bay the are freaking huge, i very much doubt if it will fit in a patrol engine bay

the power of the 7.3 would be unreal but i just dont think it would be a conversion that could happen

im not too fussed about cost other wise i wouldnt be considering doing it but as alays i'd love to do it as cheap as possible

like i said before if any one has some photo's of these in a patrol engine bay id love to see them

have you thought about the small block chev diesel ?

gm made a 5.7L for the oldsmobile

the motors are rare, but cheap

But they have a woeful reputation for reliability.
I know Linquip won't fit them. Not even if they were free.

Terrible reliability....

My old man had one in his rangie for years. It would ruin holidays when I was a young tacker...

He couldn't keep head gaskets on the thing.....
He mentioned something about it being a petrol motor with a diesel head. ???? I don't know much bout em...

But the thing sounded cool but sucked ass at the same time......

Why not use USA GOvernment Auctions - get a GMC or Chev military truck for $2,000 USD and then strip the motor out - eaasier if you got mates who can do it n crate it to you - they usually have like 40,000 miles or so on em - you could just ship back whoole truck - then u got big diffs etc and tranny and transfer.... oh and fill container with cheap tires ($220 for 37 inch boggers new!!!)

I know that you have a said you after a 6.5 chevy, but i have a low k's since (rebuild by brunswick diesel) 6.2 chevy for sale.
