36" 'Pedes Vs 37" Maxxis Creepy's Vs 37 MT/R's

Post by bigbluemav »

Hi All

After experiences and opinions.

When the 35" MT/R's I have wear out, I'll be after replacements. As the car is now only driven on road once a week'ish and my focus for the tyres will be comps like the Tough Tracks Challenge and similar events, what do you reckon?? :? :? :? :?

The MT/R's have been excellent and have not yet let me down, however, for much the same price (as 37's), I could get the Simex's or the Creepy's.

MT/R's are 37"x12.5"x15"; Simex 36"x12.5"x15"; Creepy's 37"x14.5"x15".

Gearing, in relation to tyre height, won't be a huge issue as I envisage having gearmaster gears before the tyres.

After watching the creepy's on big Chris's (Giant Racing), Jeff (Red GQ Wagon) and Rolly's GQ ute, I was impressed. Simex's obvoiusly have an excellent rep. and a few cars in Tought Tracks Chall. had them also. My MT/R's performed excellently too and I had no traction issues all weekend.

So much choice, so confusing!!!!

All opinions graefully appreciated.

37" claws?
37" boggers - groove them for better lateral traction
37" procomp xterrains - different compound in the 37's and bigger
37" krawlers - red label :D

The range of choices in the 37" tyre category is huge and will be entirely dependant on the terrain you drive and the comps you are entering in.
It is a great position to be in.

There is no point in me telling you the 36" simexs work for me down here in victoria as it is mainly mud and this may not be good for you.

Look at the top rigs in the comps.
Watch everyone on the trails with different tyres.
You can see where they each work and then where they fall down.

Sorry if that doesn't help you much...but I am sure someone else here that knows the comps or area can comment :)

from reading post of your old posts it looks like you do alot of rock crawling !

the simex are an awesome tyre but if your not doing alot of mud then they arent worth it.. sure they perform great on rocks but the MTR will be better.

about the maxxis tyres not sure, not many victorians run them down here at all its mainly simex, however not alot of the serious comp guys or the guys who always are in the top 10 run these tyres.

i reckon another tyre worth looking would be the BFG krawler, i saw normy walters running them in comps and they worked well in mud and rocks.

I run teh 37" maxxi's and I'm victorian.

In mud they are excellent, clear so quick it isn't funny. I think they rock on rocks, especially at stoopidly low pressures(this is where they come into their own...)

Everywhere else they are good value.

As for comps - teh guys who placed 2nd at Vic Winch 04 were running them and were up against a field of mostly simex.
80 Series Turbo - the Toy car...
XR6 Turbo - the work car...
XW wagon - the dogs car...
