diff lock info wanted

Post by mavdog »

Thinking of trying 4wd systems (gear to goannawhere) lock right lokka in my lux?? (front and rear)
Has anyone got any good reports / bad reports on these??

How much loss of steering is suffered with turns on hard surfaces??

Being a 2.8 diesel the rear shouldn't be to much of a problem with day 2 day driving should it ???

thanks

hit the link up the top of the page that says "search" and search for lockrite

:)

on the rear it will reduce your turning circle a little, on the front it would be in 2wd on bitumen anyway, the steering is stiffer with one on the front while in 4wd.

My boyfriend has one in the rear of his hilux and it works really well. can be a bit clunky on the road but great on the tracks especially if you cant afford an air lokka. have heard mixed reactions about putting them in the front but if the power is off the rear one will free spin so i would expect it would just take time to get used to in the front. wierd to drive the first time. pm me if you want to know about them in the rear

Some of my mates have bought some stuff from 4wd systems and none of us are very impressed by them.

One mate with a hilux was thinking about doing a bodylift and went in and bought the blocks. he decided to try to get the bolts himself. later when he couldn't be bothered going down to united fasteners he rang 4wd systems to get the bolt pack for the body lift from them and the guy said that they don't do a body lift for a hilux and that when he bought the blocks he was going to sell him a bolt pack for a pajero, hoping that it was the same. They didn't even sell him enough blocks. they told my mate the hilux needed 10 blocks when it actually needs 12. They don't seem very professional to me.

When the same mate installed a replacement tank from there, it didn't even fit. we had to space the center tailshaft bearing down by about 30mm to stop it from rubbing on the tank. I could go on but i better not.

they won't get any sales from me.

there are heaps of other threads on this, search for auto locker or similar. I would prefer open center as to an auto locker in the front, plain dangerous-i had a detroit in mine, as did cheezy i think his was in there for a day

LOKKA

Post by tuf045 »

i used to have one in the back off my diesel hj47 i personally thought for the money they were good value. but in saying that i now have air lockers and would'nt go back. my opion is that for the every day driver you will find that it will accelerate tyre wear, especially in the rear and can be a little niosey at times. Driving style will have to change if you were to put one in the front ie: can be hard to steer in greasy conditions, hard to get the car exactly were you what it. But on the other hand you never have to turn it on just lock the hubs and your away, don't have to read the terrian as much as with and air locker, just concentrate on the steering.
If i was after somthing better than and lsd but could'nt afford air locker just yet i would have one for sure

a LOKKA is better than no locker!

Get a Haultech traction control. You can turn it on and off. When it is on, it only activates when you need it and you can still steer it. (Not a diff lock but same result).
