Fixing stereo wiring

Post by Acca Dacca »

The wiring in my Sierra for the stereo and whatever else that wiring for is absolutely shit. My dads a sparky and said it was done by an absolute hack.

So I want to get it sorted out and just thought I'd ask, would my dad be capable of fixing it up or would it be better to take it to an auto electrician ?

At the moment its just messy wiring with wires going to wrong things and wires not connected or cut and that sort of thing. Has caused the stereo to act strangely, speakers going on and off and one side working then the other and so on.

If he's a sparky, he understands electricity and should have no problem rewiring it.... hell, I have no qualifications at all and I have done it a number of times, its pretty much common sence..... if you don't know what it is, dont mess with it.

dude stereo wiring is a piece of piss to wire in

ya only got a few wires : black - EARTH
red -to battery
yellow - to ignition ( or any line that switches off with ignition )

four wires - speakers
blue - power aerial if it has this wire

thats the basic wiring setup for most stereos
the wire color might be diferent but u should get the idea
just a little left of insanity :)

Well its mostly just stereo wiring. Looks like maybe some other stuff too.

At the moment its a mess though, the wires are just taped into a big bundle, with wires going all over the place.

Well, guess I'll tell me dad to go and sort it out. I'm sure he'll enjoy doing it...
