Lumination Egnition System

Lumination Egnition System
Hey all!
I have an old aftermarket lumination electronic egnition system on my shitty 3.5 carbie. The lumination module has failed therefor no spark and no running! The lumination setup is not compatible with any other systems.
My options seem to be a whole new electronic egnition setup from Pirahna= approx $350, change whole dizzy to disco one= approx $450, or convert back to original points ingnition!
Searched around the forum and have seen people have been using buick 350 dizzy's HEI and so on but i have heard big spark can lead to big problems in water thou?
What have you guys done to your rigs?
Anyone happen to have a spare lumination module around that i can buy?
Any way any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I used a Crane Fireball electronic ignition system you can buy at Autobarn for about $300. Very easy to fit and allows you to go back to points if the inevitable happens.
If despreate, you could just run points again. You can also get a later EFI dizzy for about $250 from the wreckers if you wish.

Trav

Land Rover- The Collingwood of 4WD's!!!!
To get the thing going, you need points and a condensor.
Probably $40 all up - can't remember.
I have the optospark system, and carry the above (just in case).
Probably takes about 15-20 mins to swap over.
That's the quick fix.
Are you sure no other system components are comaptible?
If not, then you have 4 options.
1. Buy replacement luminition parts.
2. Buy another aftermarket electronic ignition (ebay is your friend).
3. Settle for the points sytem.
4. Get an HEI dizzy.

79 Rangie (his name is Ralf) 4.4 dual fuel, with plenty of other mods.
Oils leaks are a factory option to prevent rust!

I did the HEi conversion year ago, replaced an aftermarket luminition style kit, and have never looked back. The HEI offers such good spark its unbelieveable. I have NEVER had a problem starting, with water etc since i fitted it and economy is great (for a rover) about 15-20% better. There is a tech article on the build up, or you could just get a buick 350 dizzy, freshen it up and drop it in.

Its a tight fit, but its worth it!

TR Spares in Sydney sold Luminition up to 5 years ago anyway.
But they are not high energy. they are only a transistorised switch that will drive a points type coil. I f you try to run a modern electronic coil they will blow up in 2 minutes. Ask me how I know.
I suggest an electronic distributor. those combo HEI Buick setups seem the ducks guts if you can find the bits cheap. I would think not easy in Oz.

You could try an Aldon Ignitor, very neat module costs about £100 UKP.
Lumenition kits are still available, http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk sell them but there must be somewhere cheaper than them - there usually is. Lumenition themselves might sell you a spare module separately.
In my experience a bigger spark is *better* in water & crap because it will manage to find it's way through where a weaker one would die.
