Info on CLIMAX shackles. (how well do they work?)
have a set of climax shackles that i picked for a carton wondering if its possible to put em on backwards, fuel tank is in the way a bit. they are hilux ones and we had them on the lux and they hardly opened up so going to try them on the zook just offroad in the hope that they will twist up a bit more and open fully. would love to hear from someone who has them or has had them and find out how they worked and how to make them work better. cheers.
cash purchase $1000, 1st crash $800, 2nd crash $1500, ruining a zook in 6 months PRICELESS
throw them away I reckon. I have never seen them work properly and in fact have seen them destroy a set of springs. I'm sure there are people who are happy with them too but I wouldn't put them on my Zuk that's for sure.
Also if they are for a Hilux they will be too wide for Sierra springs which will cause a few problems

yeah i know they are to wide but with the extra slack they may open up more with a soft bush in there. not going to run them off road just want to trial them off road. got extended shackles atm but lookin for a bit more til i have the funds to get longer springs etc. does not matter if the kill my springs as they are already crappy

EGFAWKENZACTLY
so many people say they put em on a mate zuk and it dun nothing
My mate has these on his zuk with the standard shocks for his 3" lift springs, they hardly even open at all, we are fabbin a custom / \ style shock mount for the rear with 15" travel procomps and 4" higher shock hoops for the front to run 10" travel shocks up front, sure the rear with 15" travel shock is overkil but the 15" shocks are the same price as 12" and seein as the mounts are custom who cares
It should flex up quiet nicely
woopsy
yeah i have extended shocks all round just interested to give em a go since they are sittin at home doin nothin. but will put that idea on the back burner as i just smashed my zook on the weekend at manar park

the zuks I have seen them on have had extended shocks and mounts all dialled in for these gimmicks and they still sucked and ended up destroying the springs. Only going on what I have seen no "my mates, next doors neighbours, dog walker reckons they are good or bad" I have personally never seen them or the like work as advertised or to be worth the time and money to justify them

had a set on the back of my first zook that i made myself, they worked well, but i would go a different way if i did it again.
IMO to have a nice, flexy ,legal zook up here in qld, i would keep it SUA and use yn65 hilux springs (small chassis mods required) and some 80series bilstien shocks. This will give nice controlled useable flex without compromising stability and still be legal with about 4-5" lift over std.

ive seen superior drops in use on his and a couple of other cars and seem to do it with no hassle at all. there was big talk about them being harsh and shiat but in my opinion if your driving that fast and still manage to extend the shackle in a large hole you dont deserve to have the car, and the shackles. i also have seen a set of climax shackles on a zuke at the back and i didnt see them extend, the car just rocked on 2 wheels, so i dont know if that was bad driving, bad install or just not as well engineered/built as superiors
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
I cant see how they would be any good. Im no suspension expert but the flex they do give you would be useless anyway as there is no weight on the wheel therefore traction is minimal, if anything. They might be useful if they had some kind of shock or spring, it drops as it usually would but when open something acts as resistance to it closing to allow the vehicles weight to be applied to the wheel.
When you can make regular shackles pretty cheaply from flat bar i dont see the point in spending $$$ on these things.
