SD33T engine problems
SD33T engine problems
After operating at high rpms (like highway driving or just reving hard) my SD33T will cut out while decellerating or when it comes to idle. I think I also have an electrical problem with the Turbo Timer / Glow Plug relay, it is making clicking noises and seems to run directly off the battery (should it? I have to get a multimeter to test it). To rule this out causing the problem I disconnected the injection pump motor so the engine could only be stopped manually but the problem is still there. If the motor is stopped for a while then started and left to idle it is fine. I haven't done a great deal of troubleshooting yet - just wondering if any one else has had a similar problem and can point me in the best place to start looking. Thanks for any help.
prob
well it deffinatelly wont be electrical then!
You will be up for an injection pump re-build. $600-$1000

Just took it for another test run. It runs OK during normal driving around town, but after high revs as I described above it quickly loses oil pressure down to about .5 Kg/cm2 (normal runs at 3 which is half way on the guage). During the high revs it sometimes goes up to about 4 and to keep engine running at idle I have to keep revs up a little bit higher - the higher the revs the more oil pressure - so I think it definately has something to do with that - any more ideas?
MK have a low oil pressure cutout switch built into them. Your MK may have a motor that has lot of scum interfering with the workings of the switch.
How many kays has it done and what are the service intervals......
Try running an engine cleaner through the oil before you next drop it.
I have also heard others put a mixture of oil and deisel in to clean out the scum which may be causing your issues but I have never done it and don't know the ratio.....You could always put in ten litres of deisel and turn the motor by hand???
