clutch

Post by madrangie »

I got my rangie back on the road easter time from a little upgrade and still having teething problems , latest one is the clutch seems to like to slip in high range . Does a heavy duty clutch kit exist or is it easier to source a custom made pressure plate . The fly wheel is a four speed while it is a 5 speed box , The cluch in it right now is a standard clutch which had stuff all wear when we put it first in.

Clutch

Yes there are heavy duty clutches around.
I used A HSV clutch on mine from VT GTS or any of the 6 speed boxes getrag i think. Should solve the problem.

My opinion is that the stock rangie clutch is one of the best in the buisness and have seen them crucified and still work fine (mine especially) If you can find a HD clutch use that if you wish. But you shouldnt have any problems with a stock one.

I think that your clutch is just plain stuffed. Either a broken diaphram, worn out driven plate or you got oil leaking over everything.

You havent got your bellhousing wading plug in??? Cause this would fill everything up with oil if your rear main seal was leaking a bit.

need motor and box ... so should be no oil

Oh dang forgot it is pommy got that factory leak :?
i think it might have been a combo of big tires and too much power , i give up on the holden clutch plates as have had two so far and they are giving me grief forks run on the release bearing .

so just a standard clutch kit be good enough hey ?

need motor and gear box was meant to say new motor and box . If you have a 4.4 leyland with a 4 speed flywheel yet running a 5 speed box is clutch spec the same beside the splines on the input shaft . The clutch only slips now and then mainly when you torque it right up in high range ie giving a bombadore a drag . This is the reason why i was thinking the pressure plate might not be up to standard for the torque levels .
