hey,

Im looking to run a quadrajet on my 3.9, i currently have what i think is a standard intake manifold and a adapter plate for a 2 barrel Holley.

What intake manifold would I need to run a quadrajet ?

I have searched the forum and found info on an edelbrock manifold this is the part number I found for it:

ED2198 | PERFORMER MANIFOLD,BUICK/ROVER | 215, IDLE TO 5500RPM

Would a quadrajet fit this manifold or would I need an adapter ?

there are a few around.

You will need spread bore patern or adaptor from square to spread.

edlebrock, and a few others.

I had a square bore edelbrock performer manifold on mine and later changed to a qjet, using a spread bore adaptor plate.

It may be possible to get a spread bore edelbrock manifold for the rover, which would be better than using the adaptor plate.

Flame me if you like, but isn't a quadrajet FAR FAR too big for a 3.9. A 200 BHP 3.9 demands about 300CFM at 200 BHP at say 5500 Revs.
A quad has a CFM rating of 600 or 700 CFM. A Holley 350 passes , wait for it 350CFM, so is about the correct size.
I would think you would have real problems tuning it to run smoothly, particularly the progression to the secondaries, as the vacuum signals would be weak.
BUT I have had no experience with a quadrajet. However I do know quite a bit of the theory, and few professionals would recommend this setup., even though we know that quads are better on slopes than Holleys.

I though quads were run on 253s in commodores ?

Ben,
received your pm but have not had time to reply yet. Dont let anyone talk you out of the quadrajet. You will not regret it. I removed the efi from my 3,5 motor and have not been happier. The carby has been fitted for 3 years and I have not even needed to adjust the idle mixtures since fitting. I get around 13.5 litres per 100 kms on the highway with the family on board and 20 litres per 100 kms in the city fully loaded with roof racks, ladders and the rear full of heavy tools and equipment. You will never have a problem with side slopes or hills in the bush either. Yes a quadrajet is far too big for your motor but it has very small primaries and the secondries are vacuum operated and will only open if and when your motor needs them. Dont go near a Holley unless running LPG.

stick with the quaddie they are one of the best carb around.

Once jetted and set up corrrectly they perform brilliantly across the full rev range.
