2 Alternators on a TD42 ?
2 Alternators on a TD42 ?
Anyone tried this ? Have done a search but came up with bugger all.
Was just poking around under the bonnet on my GQ thinking where I could poke in a second alternator for the second battery. Something small in size like off later model jap car and a decent output, internally regulated and wired to the second battery only (could easily extend the wire if the main crapped itself)
Thoughts anyone ?

ok, im no expert on this, but when i bought my duel battry system, i was asked if i wanted to run a winch. apparently there is two size systems or something. and the one i got is not for a winch. it is an 80 amp one. the winch one was rated at only 100 amps, so im gonna give mine a go one day and see how it goes.
just a thought, its a rotronics sytem by the way.

Have also had same thought for second battery as fridge in the car and camper with duel battery that is trickle charged of the car and the old 4.2 alternator doesnt have a big amp output .
If you find anything that may bolt up with minimum fab post it up cause theres plenty a player that wouldnt mind that set up

let us know how you go
i think a second altrenator is a good idear . one if the main one breaks down you still have a spare , two you could proberly buy two car one's for the price of one for a deisel with the vac /pump shaft out the back and three it gives you somthing to think about while you sit in the shed sucking on a stubby of vb

Damn right

Headed to an autoleccy mate (who will probably tell me I am nuts) tomorrow with a bunch of ideas and a bottle of rum.... My idea was that it could also be used as a spare in case of breakdown of your main, simply extending the main wire across to your start battery would keep you mobile with no dramas that I can see.
Going to rat through his shed for a small, suitable and easy to get alternator with a decent output and take it from there.
i`ve got 2 on my TB42.I have a switch iside that goes to a 100Amp solenoid. If my main one shits itself i can flick the switch and the 2nd will charge both batteries if needed. Its also helpfull if your camping and you go for a short trip cause the 2nd alt will chagre the 2nd battery quicker (eg say 60amps into it rather than say 30amps from 1 alt charging to batteries)
