Broken Hilux rear axle

Post by Mytqik »

Guys,

I am building a new tray for my 75 ute, & I want to mount the spare tyres vertically against the head board of the tray. I am intending on using the flange & short section of axle from the rear of a hilux. This gives me a 6 studs to mount the spare & I can use lock nuts to ensure no bastard steals my alloys.

Therefore I am wondering if anyone has 1 or 2 broken hilux rear axles with the flange that they would like to swap for a carton of XXXX or other poison.

I am located in Ipswich, but anywhere in or around Brisbane, Goldie, Sunny Coast would be ok.

A better way to do this is to use a front stub axle and hub with the disc removed. It is a little heavier but it can give you a spare Stub axle, wheelbearings,Hub and also Freewheeling Hub. I have seen this taken one more step and add a CV inside of this as well.

sorry cant help you with the parts though.

Ruff,

To do this, does the stub axle bolt onto the head board, where it normally bolts onto the swivel hub??

If it were to hold a CV, was the swivel hub used to protect it or was it just hanging out the front of the head board???

Any chance you a pic of this setup??

Thanks for your help.

No pics sorry. There was a rig in a petersons mag a few years ago running this set up.

But yes you could bolt the stub axle to the headboard. To fit the CV you would somehow need to make a cover for the CV or as you said use the swivel hub as well.
