rust repair qg gutter

Post by mauricem »

gotta make a quick decsion on a gq patrol, seller has sent these pics of some rust that needs repair.

anybody like to comment on approx cost and if rust here likely means more problems elsewhere. Cant inspect the truck for a couple of days or get a quote but the price is ok as long as rust isnt going to be an ongoing problem

Once a car no matter what brand has rust than it is an ongoing battle to keep it at bay. My MK for instance had rust in the bottom sill panels that I personally removed and plated etc and then sprayed fish oil and cavity wax but the rust came back.

Rust where that car has it is terminal and will eventually eat the whole side of the roof away...

Off to the wreckers and find a new or better turret would be a better option than fixin that.
It would have to be a real cheapo truck factoring in a turret and labour and then you have to think that getting one that you dont have to do much to may be cheaper than fixing this.

Get him to take pics of the radiator support uprights at the bottom, i reckon you would see engine thru the holes, thats a classic spot.

My fix estimate would be at least couple of grand, not less to do a lasting job.

If you or a mate is handy with a welder and grinder than you can have the rest of my half wagon which is sitting in the back yard. You pick up and you take away.

thanks for the offer Chris and the advise MQ. I think Ill keep looking for an easier option, dont really fancy recurring rust problems on another vehicle when there are clean ones around, although having just looked at a full gq body on ebay I reckon that or one similar could be a goer, probably work ot cheaper than repair.
