GQ ute cab onto SWB chassis

has anyone done this? i wanna put a cab off a GQ ute onto my GQ swb chassis.... will the body mounts line up or will i need to modify?
and will the back of the cab clear the rear wheels with it being a swb???

any help appreciated

I sold John (Bartso) the cab for his conversion and assured him it would fit and..............it did ;)

A ute cab fits onto either a wagon or a shortie chassis and BOLTS STRAIGHT UP TO ALL EXISTING MOUNTS.

Just do it. IT WORKS TRUST ME (my ute is a ute cab on wagon chassis also). It has been done many times. John can verify this.........where are you Bartso???????

The leaf sprung ute will also fit. the only difference is that where the front shockie holes are on a leaf sprung cab it has a blank over the indent for the shocks so you just have to remove the blank or hole saw a hole in the blank to allow the shocks to fit up into the indent. get what I mean? Call me if you don't understand. Mine is a leaf sprung cab on a coil chassis.

Ryan no the wheels will not scrub even on a shortie. ;)

Ryan the rear of the uts cab, is only about 2 inch past ur door.
the back of the cab comes even nearly with the front of ur rear guard.
it all bolts on.

Ive just finished doing this on my MQ, and it fit perfectly and has come up well.

MQ and GQ bodys are almost identical.
the length is exactly the same.

no drama at all.

should come and have a look at mine.

yes i have photo proof that this will work what year is the ute cab if it is the model with the flared guards everything will be fine
if its the straight guards then there is a couple of simple mods needed for the lights to line up :D

its strait forward, just time consuming.

all u have to do i basically unbolt ur body and strip the whole thing out and switch all the stuff inbetween.
and bolt back on.

if the cab as all interior in it, then its just bolting on and adding your accesories and connecting up your brake lines etc again.

I've just finished converting my wagon to a ute by bolting on a (leaf) ute cab. As people have previously said, its very straight forward. Later cabs use M12 body mounting bolts instead of M10 bolts; the M12 bolts will still fit in the earlier chassis however, and from what I can see are a much better option.

Ute cabs are worth a lot more than wagon bodies. You'd be looking at $2-3 k for a decent ute cab, at least in this part of the world.

I'd often wondered if a cab would fit on a SWB chassis. I think the weight savings would be a lot more when converting a LWB to a ute however......

personally i would chop the back off your swb and weld on a ute back. i paid $200 for my ute back. i had my whole chop finished for under $1500 including a full 2 pac respray. it is easy enough to do yourself providing you can weld. if not a sheetmetal shop could do the welding. i think it will cost less than a cab and there is less disruption to your setup. you can also then put you seat beck comfortably and fit a cage with a little extra cab space. however if you swb like bartso's had rust then the ute is better.

also look at gu cabs. i sore one at archafield wreckers for $1500. needed bonnet glass etc but may work out not a lot dearer and your resale would compensate. wouldn't it be different too :twisted:

yeah i considered cutting my cab......... thats what i originally wanted to do but i cant weld so it would probably end up getting pretty expencive lol :twisted:

OK guys - is it possible to bolt a wagon (dual cab conversion) onto a coil cab ute chassis ??

are the body mounts there ??
are the wheelbases the same ?? is that an issue ??

wheel base is same though not enough body mounts for the dual cab you could try and weld some mounts on in their place though
